M.Sc. Mathematics Programme Structure

Candidates who have passed B.Sc / B.Sc.Ed from a recognized University with Mathematics as one of the major subjects. or Candidates who have passed BE/B.Tech from a recognized University / Institution. Duration of the Programme The M.Sc. Mathematics programme will be of two academic years' duration and conducted in four semesters with each semester having an academic duration of 14 to 16 weeks.. Course of Study 1. The M.Sc. in Mathematics programme shall be in Semester Scheme. Although the duration of the programme is two years, the maximum period for completion of the programme shall be four years. 2. There shall be five courses in each semester. Each paper shall be of 100 marks. (80 Exam) + 20 (Internal Assessment). Programme Structure A candidate has to earn totally 70 credits form all 4 semesters. The 1st and 2nd semesters have 5 theory courses of 3 credits each.The 3rd and 4th semester have 5 and 4 theory papers respectively of each 4 credits. In the 4th semester the candidate is expectedto take up an independent project of 4 credits. A dissertation should be prepared and submitted to theStudy Centre for evaluation. Credit System M.Sc. Mathematics Programme of Karnataka State Open University is designed keeping in view the credits prescribed and recognized by the Distance Educational Council (DEC). Each course is allotted with 3 credits. Credit delinates the study hour; and 1 credit is 30 hours of study. A candidate has to earmark 90 hours per course for studies, which includes teaching, learning, library, preparation of Internal Assessment and Examination. Evaluation Procedure Evaluation for each course covers two aspects: a.Internal assessment (IA) through assignments with a weightage of 20% b.Term-end examination having a weightage of 80% Internal Assessment Internal Assessment for M.Sc. Mathematics Programme shall consist of Assignment and Seminar. Assignment: Assignment questions will be sent to the candidates at the time of admission. The candidates have to write the assignments, tag the assignments course wise separately and submit at Study Centre within the stipulated time. Scheme Of Examinations 1. There shall be a University examination at the end of each semester of course. 2. Minimum marks for passing is 40 marks in each paper (with minimum 32 marks in Examination).

Students will be eligible to get their degree certificates of M.Sc. Mathematics after successful completion of their academic programme. They will have to apply to the Register (Evaluation) along with the prescribed fee at the time of convocation to get their degree certificates. However they may be issued a provisional degree certificates, on application, soon after the announcement of the final result.

Course fees: Rs. 13000/- per semester inclusive of all the fees except late fees(For Students residing in India)
For NRIs: one Time Registration Fees : $400, Course Fees: $300 per semester
