Guidelines for Looking at Draft Classes for 2013-14 Please Read Before Starting

NIST Elementary School Class Placement Guiding Principle: The class placement process is designed to establish learning pods that accommodate the social, emotional and academic needs of students, whilst ensuring a diversity of nationality, language and gender balance. To best meet the individual learning needs of students, a clustering model groups students with common learning needs. ALL OF THE CLASS PLACEMENT INFORMATION SHOULD BE KEPT HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL . The reason for this is, that should we need to make changes later to ensure balanced classes, students and parents are not surprised nor disappointed by such changes. Placements have been done in line with the ES Class Placement Guidelines. Please add the suggestions, your name and the reason for the suggestion to the sheet provided (not on the original) so that the committee can contact you if we require any further clarification.

Please place all documents back in the folders to ensure confidentiality of the documents.
A great deal of time and effort has gone into considering the input from teachers, students and parents as well as the 'over -all view' of the year levels from the perspective of the counsellors and vice principal. Most of the time, we have been able to meet the suggestions from these sources, but please understand that meeting requests is not always possible when we also need to work around clustering, gender balance, balance of nationalities and ensuring all students have at least one friend. Large numbers of EAL and LS students or students with behavioural needs (B) in some year levels has also impacted how students have been placed. As we have spent a great deal of time preparing lists, the purpose of this viewing is 'fine tuning'. Please only indicate

feedback if there is a major problem that will significantly impact learning in the class. Of course we will consider all
feedback from staff, but we will need to balance this against all other considerations in light of our guiding principle for class placement. Other information to be aware of: Classes are labelled with 2013-14 Year Level Teachers are not shown, although the teachers were considered when placing students so as to best meet the needs of the students please look at each class as if you were the one who was to teach it next year. Colour code as per VeracrossPink for girls & Blue for boys Gender and nationalities are currently as balanced as we can make them. They will be further balanced with new students when we finalize their placements in July. All students have been placed with at least one friend that they have nominated. EAL, LS EL & B (behaviour) students are all placed in appropriate classes. If you notice missing students please make a notewe have not included students who are leaving but we are keen to find anyone who might have been missed out. We will also run a Veracross search to double check for missing students at a later stage. A few names dont show fully we apologize for this. If you were teaching at NIST in previous years, please take a look at the classes for students you taught in previous years. In particular, please look for students who were specifically separated in the past and notify on the sheet provided.

Further changes may occuras students will leave unexpectedly there may be some minor shuffling.

Thank you for taking the time to look at the classes. We will consider all suggestions, but please remember that the final decision is that of the placement team.
