Course: GCSE Course Week No: Subject Tutor: Shidik Hossen Topic of lesson (link to syllabus/specification): Angle sum of a triangle Finding angles of regular polygons Subject: Date: 25/10/2012 Mathematics (Foundation) Time: 9:00 Number of students: Materials and equipment required: Paper, pencil, protractor Whiteboard, marker Task 1-5 Duration: Room:
Lesson Aims (lecturers intention): 1. To ensure that learners are able to determine that the exterior angle of a triangle will always equal to the sum of the interior opposite angles. 2. To ensure that all learners understand that angles that meet at a point on a straight line will add up to 180-degrees (supplementary angles). 3. To ensure that all learners are able to understand that corresponding angles are equal and opposite angles are also equal. 4. To ensure that all learners will be able to determine that the interior angles of any triangles will always add up to 180 degrees (base on the above two statements). 5. To ensure that all learners understand that all regular polygons have all its sides and angles equal.. 6. To ensure learners are able to work out that the sum of the interior angles of a regular polygons is (n-2) x 180 where n is number of sides. 7. To ensure that learners are able to work out that angles in a regular polygon is done by the formula: {(n-2) x 180} /n
Learning objectives by the end of the lesson students should be able to: 1. All learners will complete task 1 by measurement to determine the sum of two opposite angles equal to the exterior angle. 2. All learners will work out task 2 to understand supplementary angles, corresponding angles and opposite angles. 3. All learners will need to work out task 3 to determine the angle sum of a triangle is 180 degrees. 4. All learners will complete task 4 to understand the total sum of regular polygons by using the formula (n-2) x 180. 5. All learners will complete task 5 to understand how to work out each angle in a regular polygon. Most able learners will need to draw their own regular polygon and work out the interior and exterior angles and be able to draw conclusion.
Strategies for differentiation and equal opportunities: All learners will be able to understand the main topic. Low able learners will be supported individually where as most able learners will complete the extension task: An interior angle of a regular polygon is 160 degrees. How many sides does the regular polygon have?
Assessment methods (how the learning outcome will be assessed): 1. Through Q & A(whole group and individual learner) 2. Through multiple worksheets task 3.

Feedback
Short evaluation through some simple question such as: 1.What is the relationship among the interior angles of a triangle? 2.what conclusion can we draw about the sum of the interior angles of a triangle? 3.What do we know about supplementary, opposite, corresponding angles? 4. which formula we use to work out the sum of angles in a regular polygon? 5. which formula we use to work out the angles in s regular polygon.
