Brothers and Sisters, I have good news! God has not left us behind. Even though there are times when we might feel as if God has abandoned us, and left us to figure out this life on our own, we can remember that God promised we would not be alone. Yes, just like the first Christian communities, we too wait for Christs return we wait,but we shouldntwait only in the comfort of our homes or church pews. We are called to love Jesus and obey his commandments outin the world in relation to those around us. We can and should do this with the confidence that God has not abandoned us. That said, there are times in our lives when we cant help but feel like God has abandoned us. Maybe youve felt it as a single parent late at night, tending to a sick child. Maybe youve felt it in the days, weeks, or even years after the death of a loved one. Maybe youve felt it in your struggle with chronic illness, or a sudden life-altering health diagnosis.Maybe youve allowed yourself to wonder if God has somehow left you behind as you waitand waitand wait for a new job. Weve all felt this way, and its okay! Its even healthy, in a way, because it reminds us of our shared humanity. Weve all felt this, but then we hear a comforting reminder through the gospel lesson this morning. Even when there are times where we feel as if God has left us behind, we remember the promise of the Spirits presence. God joins us through the presence of the Holy Spirit, and guides us in living out the teachings of Jesus to love and serve one another. And its here, in loving and serving others, that we know the Spirits presence with us. As we love and serve one another,the Spirit moves. Its this movement that can move us from a sense of abandonment to real connectivity; to a connection to one another and to God. We move away from this sense of abandonment as we love and serve others, becausewe recognize that we are not alonein our late nights with a sick childwe

recognize that,as wemourn the loss of a loved, onewe are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesseswe recognize that others can share in oursufferingswe recognize that others wait with us, in hopeful anticipation, for that next job offer. The gospel of John reminds us that,with the Spirit,we dont face all that life has to offer alone. But theres more. Not only does the Spirit join us,but Jesus also offers us the gift of peace. He says, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. [La paz les dejo; mi paz les doy. Yo no se la doy a ustedes como la da el mundo. No se angustienni se acobarden.] This peace is one that overwhelms any peace (or strife) that this world might have to offer. It is a peace that comes from knowing that we do not make this journey through life alone, but rather, guided by the movement of the Holy Spirit. I pray that you, as individuals and as a church, might continue to know Gods presence through the movement of the Holy Spirit. I pray that this might offer you an overwhelming sense of peace. I pray that, with confidence in the presence of the Holy Spirit, and groundedin Gods divine peace, you might seek to love and serve one another, both inside and outside of this church. Amen.

Hermanos y hermanas, tengo una buena nueva! Dios no nos ha abandonado. A pesar de que hay momentos en que podemos sentir como si Dios nos ha abandonado y dejado resolver esta vida por nuestra cuenta, podemos recordar que Dios prometi que no estaramos solos. S, al igual que las primeras comunidades cristianas, nosotros tambin esperamos el regreso de Cristo ... esperemos, pero no debemos esperar slo en la comodidad de nuestros hogares o bancas de iglesia. Somos llamados a amar a Jess y obedecer sus mandamientos en el mundo... en relacin con los que nos rodean. Podemos y debemos hacerlo con la confianza de que Dios no nos ha abandonado. Dicho esto, hay momentos en nuestras vidas cuando no podemos evitar sentir que Dios nos ha abandonado. Tal vez te ha sentido como un padre solo a altas horas de la noche, atendiendo a un nio enfermo. Tal vez ha sentido esto en los das, semanas o incluso aos despus de la muerte de un ser querido. Tal vez ha sentido esto en su lucha con una enfermedad crnica o de repente su vida alterada por el diagnstico de salud. Tal vez usted se ha permitido preguntarse a si mismo si Dios de alguna manera lo ha abandonado a medida de esperar ... y esperar ... y esperar a un nuevo trabajo. Todos nos hemos sentido as, y no pasa nada! Es incluso saludable, en cierto modo, porque nos recuerda nuestra humanidad compartida. Todos hemos sentido esto, pero luego escuchamos un recordatorio reconfortante a travs de la leccin del Evangelio de esta maana. Incluso cuando hay momentos en los que sentimos como si Dios nos ha abandonado, recordamos la promesa de la presencia del Espritu. Dios nos une a travs de la presencia del Espritu Santo, y nos gua en la vivencia de las enseanzas de Jess de amar y servir a los dems.

Y es aqu, en el amor y servicio a los dems, que sabemos de la presencia del Espritu en nosotros. Como amamos y servimos unos a otros, el Espritu se mueve. Es este movimiento que nos puede pasar de una sensacin de abandono a la conectividad real, a una conexin del uno con el otro y con Dios. Nos alejamos de la sensacin de abandono como que amamos y servimos a los dems, porque reconocemos que no estamos solos en nuestras horas de la noche con un nio enfermo... reconocemos que, mientras lloramos la prdida de un ser querido, que estamos rodeados de una gran nube de testigos ... reconocemos que otros puedan compartir nuestros sufrimientos ... reconocemos que otros esperan con nosotros, en previsin de esperanza, para la prxima oferta de empleo. El evangelio de Juan nos recuerda que, con el Espritu, no enfrentamos todo lo que la vida tiene para ofrecer solos. Pero hay ms. No slo el Espritu nos une, sino que Jess tambin nos ofrece el don de la paz. l dice: "La paz les dejo;. Mi paz les doy. Yo no se las doy a USTEDES COMO la da El Mundo. No se angustien ni se acobarden. Esta paz es la que excede de una paz (o lucha) que este mundo podra tener que ofrecer. Es una paz que viene de saber que no hacemos este viaje por la vida solos, sino que, guiados por el movimiento del Espritu Santo. Ruego que ustedes, como individuos y como iglesia, puedan continuar y conociendo la presencia de Dios a travs de la accin del Espritu Santo. Ruego que esto pudiera ofrecer una abrumadora sensacin de paz. Ruego para que, con la confianza en la presencia del Espritu Santo, y basada en la paz divina de Dios, usted pudiera tratar de amar y servir a los dems, tanto dentro como fuera de la iglesia. Amn.
