ShelterBox Canada Summer Position Communications and Program Intern

Position: Status: Program and Communications Intern 6 week placement to start after May 27 2013 ending no later than Aug 31 2013 30-35 hours per week, 5 days per week Regular work week will be Monday through Friday during office hours, but will be adjusted for special events when weekend or evening work is required Minimum wage Executive Director and Fundraising and Administrative Coordinator June 1st 2013

ShelterBox Canada is a non-profit disaster relief organization that specializes in emergency shelter
provision. Since 2001, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth and dignity for families all over the world affected by natural and man-made disasters. Responsibilities: The Program and Communications Intern will work on special projects and provide day-to-day support in order to engage volunteers and donors, build awareness, and raise funds. Assignments will vary over the course of the summer, and may include work in the following areas: Development of resources, programs and communications Support volunteer recruitment, engagement, and other initiatives Support donor relations and engagement to maximize revenue Support programs to help educate children, youth and other audiences about social awareness, disaster relief, and global humanitarian work Conduct program and fundraising analysis. Research audiences that may be prospects for donations and fundraising activities, including corporate and youth/school target groups. Represent ShelterBox and support coordination of ShelterBox presence at community festivals and events. Help prepare and coordinate communications for mass email and mail delivery. Assist with donation processing and related donor communications. Other special projects as assigned.

Qualifications: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) Excellent proficiency on PC computer applications including MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), databases and the internet Strong organizational skills and detail orientation Self-starter with ability to work independently and as a member of a team Creative and strategic thinker with a passion for bringing new ideas to the table. Able to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility in taking on new accountabilities as they arise Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems, technologies or computer applications Strong work ethic and a commitment to the mission of ShelterBox Canada. In addition to these requirements, the following are considered to be assets (but not requirements) for this role: Experience working with volunteers Experience in a non-profit/fundraising environment Experience in PR/marketing Experience with social media communications
