INTRODUCTION A survey is an information compilation tool used in order to compile information about individuals. Surveys are commonly used in psychology research to collect self-report data from study participants (Kendra, 2011). A survey may focus on factual information about individuals, or it might aim to collect the opinions of the survey takers. A survey can be administered in a couple of different ways. Therefore, this survey will introduce us on how many students involved in this survey. There are a few methods used to conduct this survey. The target chosen is among the students of IPG KBA. They will be questioned on a few questions such as the total of allowance given each month, support of money from parents, working part-time, spending of allowance each month and others. These questions will be discussed based on the research done and come out with the logic reasons. The researches will be presented in diagrams and charts in order to ease the comparisons. Therefore, in order to complete this coursework, the students are needed to cooperate in doing surveys and give their brief explanation on the questions provided.

METHODOLOGY 1. Sample Selection Before choosing the questions, we need to consider the characteristics of the students in this college. The PPISMP students are chosen to finish up this survey because they are suitable and given allowance by the government each month are same. The students chosen are being divided according to gender and ethnics because there are differences activities done by both of these groups. Table 1: Number of students according to gender Gender No. of students Male 20 Female 20

Table 2: Number of students according to ethnics Ethnics No. of students Malay 22 Chinese 3 Indian 13 Others 2

Table 3: Number of students according to programme Names of Program PPISMP June 2011 PPISMP June 2012 Numbers of student 33 7

2. Instrument The questions are divided into two sections which are Section A and Section B. The questions are being separated because the information gathered will be analysed easily. Under Section A, the students will be questioned on the name, class, program, gender and ethnics. Under Section B, the students will be questioned on how they manage their allowance.

3. Data collection Firstly, we make the questions and arrange it properly. The students of PPISMP June 2011 and June 2012 intakes are being chosen and gathered in a place to answer the survey questions. We give instruction and guide them on how the survey going on. The respondents give their answer based on their own opinions.

DATA ANALYSIS Question 1: How much allowance do you get each month? Most of students in IPG KBA are given the allowance about RM 400-RM 499 because they are given allowance by the government. The rest of 20% from the targeted students are given more than RM 500 and above because they get extra money from their parents. The table and graph above represent the result from the survey. Mode: (RM 400-RM 499) Median: 20 Mean: 20 Table 3: The amount of allowance given among of students Allowance Number of students RM 400-RM 499 30 RM 500 and above 10

QUESTION 3 Do you work part-time to support your finance each? There are about 10% of the students are working part-time to support their finance each month. There are 90% of the students are not working part-time. Following, 10% of the students are working part-time because the allowance given is not enough for them. Some of them like to shopping and spent the money to buy expensive clothes. There are 90% of the students are not working part-time because think the allowance given is enough for them and they can manage well the allowance given. The results of the students work as part-time job are presented in form of table and graph. Mode: Not part time workers Median: 20 Mean: 20 Table 4: The number of students works as part-time workers Part-time workers Yes No The number of students 35 5

Question 4: How much do you spend for each month? There are 65% of students in this college spend about RM 200 and below. There are 35% of students in this college spend about RM 200 and above. There are 65% of students in this college spend about RM 200 and below because they know how to use the money wisely and have a financial budget each month. But there are 35% of students in this college spend about RM 200 and above. As mentioned before, some of them are working part time to support them each month. So, we must think creatively to make sure we will survive based on the allowance given. Mode: (RM 200 and below) Median: 20 Mean: 20 Table 5: The amount of allowance given each month The amount of allowance spend each month The number of students 26 14 RM 200 and below RM200 and above

CONCLUSION A survey is an information compilation tool used in order to compile information about individuals. Surveys are commonly used in psychology research to collect self-report data from study participants (Kendra, 2011). A survey may focus on factual information about individuals, or it might aim to collect the opinions of the survey takers. A survey can be administered in a couple of different ways. The allowance given to the foundation students is RM430 each month. Some of them getting extra money from their parent and working part time. They spend lot things such as foods, clothes, entertainment and others. As conclusion, the result of the survey that we have collected is presented in form of graph which consists of some information about students life in IPG KBA.

REFLECTION Name: Muhammad Mukmin bin Razani This short coursework received by us is about handling a survey of allowance given among of students by our lecturer, Dr. Man Ah Keow. After the briefing about this coursework, we had to work in pair and I found my group who is Mohd Syafiq Bin Ahmad. We distributed our jobs according to the information related. Both of us must search and analyze any survey which related in students daily life. In this task, we have to job down the introduction of the survey, compare and contrast characteristics of the students life and must come out with examples of questionnaires. From that, we released that we have to be choosy in doing research and reference because not all of the information in internet is acceptable. After this short coursework done, our perception of making survey now as compared to previous experiences is different. When we are handling a survey, we have to prepare the questions which are related to the main focus of the issue. Then, we also could understand easily because when we used strategies to survey the students, we could identify the steps one by one and this will make the students easy to understand. So, we did not experience any difficulties when doing the survey. Therefore, the coursework completing process becomes more fun and easy to be followed. Besides, working in group can make this coursework easier to be completed. We divided the tasks and materials that needed to be found. As the information is compiled, we had to choose the best and suitable materials to be used. Moreover, working in group can build our strong relationship among of us. We always have to meet each others in order to make sure this coursework is completely done. On the other hand, I realized that the materials provided by IPBA are not too much. The books in library which provide information on this topic are not too much. Sometimes, we have to share the books with my friends from the other class. I also found that it is hard to find materials through internet since there is no internet access in our hostel. In order to solve this problem, I have to go to the class to look for these materials.

Although we did experience difficulties in completing this coursework given, we felt very satisfied with our work and really thankful. We also felt very happy and enjoyed ourselves after finishing this assignment. I hope this assignment will satisfy our lecturer and obtain better result for upcoming examination.

REFLECTION NAME: Mohd Syafiq bin Ahmad In this semester, I had received a course work for Basic Mathematics which is related to conducting on a survey and finally a report. For this course I need to complete the course work as in pair among my course mates. After a several discussions with my partner and the lecturer, my friend and I did a collecting of questionnaires and distributed it to our respondent. Basically, all course work need be submitted in a timely manner. But, I have managed to complete all the course works in a short period of time. This is because many of my group members helped me along in completing this course work. We frequently hold discussions among ourselves to earn a better understanding on how to complete the course work literally. Other than that, I also lack of references materials to complete this assignment. We had to work hard to make sure we got the right and complete information. Due to that we had to sleep a bit late to complete this task. My partner and I also have limited time to discuss. This is because the course work needs to be completed during a particular date. So, we planned to complete early to avoid we are too busy with other coursework. However, with all the effort that we had come up with, we can complete this task successfully. In conclusion, I learned a lot of new and good things from this subject. Now, I had improved the skill of collecting, managing and representing data using suitable visual representation and documenting the finding of a survey report. However the best part is that I know exactly how to write a survey report. Besides, this course works foster cooperation between the group members. Moreover, I learn how to use computer generic program and to analysis the questionnaire. As a conclusion, I hope the task that I had done meets with the marking criteria tasks that were set by the lecturers. I also hope that this course work will help me in improving my knowledge towards mathematics.
