When ZTE was awarded a cellular network upgrade contract by CSL Hong Kong to expand its 2G & 3G mobile network as well as replace existing incumbent vendor equipment with ZTEs, this leading global telecommunications equipment provider sought the use of Aexios Xeus Pro as their daily optimization solution. The result: a successful rollout in a short space of time

In March 2008, ZTE was awarded a cellular network upgrade contract by CSL (Communication Services Limited), Hong Kongs rst and leading mobile network operator. With over 2.65 million subscribers, CSL was on a quest to maintain its market leading position. It needed ZTE to not only expand CSLs 2G & 3G mobile network, but to also replace its existing incumbent vendor equipment with ZTEs.

Investigation made it an ideal solution for us Employment of the software promised to ease daily optimization headaches by managing the massive amount of TEMS and NEMO data generated during the drive testing process. With Xeus Pros smart analysis and fault nding feature, detecting common faults in the network such as swapped feeders, overshooting cells and missing neighbors was reduced to just a click of a button. Xeus Pro gave ZTE engineers complete reference to the drive test history, and also performed quick analysis and reporting time, all of which were enormously critical in an intense project such as this. Xeus Pro also presented the engineers with the power to visualize multiple data-sets such as historical drive test plots and events comparison, network statistics plots and network level information either through the MapInfo or Google Earth Window. THE CHALLENGE Hong Kongs urban geography presented a tough challenge to the projects aims. The eruption of skyscrapers alongside the islands dense population created a complex wireless environment, where site to site distance can measure up to just 100 to 200 meters. Furthermore, construction of the new CSL network was to be much bigger than CSL's current network. Approximately 6000 new sites, involving di erent technologies (GSM, WCDMA 2100 and WCDMA 850) were to be built within a one year timeframe. Such a massive rollout required extensive drive testing for site veri cation and cluster tuning as well as benchmarking against CSLs network competitors. For the purpose of this rollout, a special project team comprising more than 50 engineers was assembled to handle the optimization tasks of these new sites. With an average of 30 sites per cluster, immense drive test data was to collected, swiftly processed and analyzed to facilitate the decision making process. The clock was ticking.
