Recording HistoryInterviewing and Filming Remus Area Elders Don Hatfield, John Oswald and Gary Cox have been gathering information about the history of the Remus area and its early families. Part of this project includes conducting oral interviews on film with area elders. The interviews are digitized and eventually will be available at the museum on dvds. Other helpers on the project have been Char Lenon who made copies of photos and documents and shared information to ship to Lily from the museums collections. Don Hatfields grandson Zack Hatfield, and, Deb Bruener, both teachers at Chippewa Hills High School, have also helped with filming and taping the interviews held at the school. Interviews are also occurring in the elders homes. Thanks to a grant from the Mecosta County Community Foundation, Recording History supplies will be purchased this summer. If you are willing to share memories, or for more information, call Don Hatfield at (989) 560-3224; or email: dehatfield@cmsinter.net or museum@winntel.net.

Dear Neighbor: Member gifts are still being accepted for 2013. Community support, time, treasures and talents are what help sustain us and continue growth. Thanks to you, this last year we continued to take steps to better preserve area artifacts, photos, textiles and documents and protect against light, water, pest and other factors that can speed deterioration. Thanks to members of the Class of 1966, we again held our popular Spring Tea. For those of you that enjoy family research, we continue to improve our Genealogy area. We preserved 43 composite graduation photos from Remus Consolidated Schools for 1925 to 1967 classes. We interviewed and captured on film more than 20 elders toward an upcoming Remus area book. We are planning the 3rd annual Fall Fest day for October 12th during which many old rural arts and area products will be celebrated. The Honor Our Veterans, Area Churches and Area Recreation and Sports displays are completed and read for show. We so appreciate all the support youve given us over the years.
