Mumbai and Delhi, the metropolitan cities of India are inching close to the top 25 fashion capitals of the world. The potential of these cities combined with the opportunities in Indian economy are creating a beeline of foreign investors in the fashion concept to consumer value chain. Needless to mention the growth momentum driven by the expansion plans of home grown designers, textiles, clothing and accessories manufacturers, fashion and lifestyle retailers.
This phenomenon has created newer employment opportunities and aneverseen-beforedemand for fashion education in the country. NIFT was set up with thesupport of Central and state governments, to accommodatetheaspirations of Generation Z who seek a change from the traditional career streams and are exploring newer career avenues. With its 25 years of experience and expertise in the field of fashion education, NIFT has responded to such aspirations with enthusiasm. As a result, it is the undisputed leader in fashion education with a global recognition. The 2013 batch of NIFT has been shaped and mentored by able faculty members and supported by industry professionals. I express my best wishes to all graduating students including the Bachelor of Design (B. Des.) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B. FTech.) batches of 2012 who entered the class in 2008 and saw the see-saw ride of economy and stood firm to pursue their career in fashion business. I present the 1422 Bachelor students coming out from the Fashion Design, Accessory Design, Leather Design,Textile Design, KnitwearDesign,FashionCommunication,ApparelProductionand478Master student coming out from the Fashion Management , Fashion Technology and Design Space to you. NIFT is committed to place India on the centre stage of international fashion. Professional collaborations with the worlds leading fashion institutions and business corporations have catapulted NIFT to the forefront as an internationally renowned fashion institute. NIFT currently has MoUs with 26 international fashion schools for summer/ customised programmesandtwinning/scholarshipprogrammes.Intheyear 2012, almost 100 students from NIFT got the opportunity to undertake these programmes in various fashion universities in the world. NIFT has entered into a strategic alliance with Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York, USA. The partnership encompasses a landmark achievement and first of its kind at NIFT. This new international dimension will allow select meritoriousstudentsfromNIFT,theuniqueopportunitytoobtain a Dual Degree from both NIFT and FIT. The first batch of students selected through a rigorous process at NIFT, started their dual degree course at FIT in August 2012.

Out of the total strength of 1725 students, 1615 students (approx 83%) have registered for Campus Placements. Out of the registered students 82% students got placed after the second round. NIFT has followed the option of Online Registration for students as well as for companies like earlier years. The profile of companies attending NIFT Campus Placements. These companies were from diverse segments like Designers, Manufacturer- Exporters, Buying Agencies, Consultants, Retailers, e-retailers, Textile Mills, NGOs working with artisans, Technology Solution providers along with national and international brands. NIFT organized Campus Placements 2012 in two phases. The first phase of NIFT Campus Placements were held at 7 centres of NIFT viz. New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Gandhinagar, Kolkata & Hyderabad during 18th January to 16th February 2012 and the second phase NIFT Campus Placement 2012 were held at 3 NIFT Centres viz. Bangalore, Mumbai & New Delhi during 18th -26th June, 2012. NIFT Industry Linkage Unit has approached approximately 7500 companies out of which 456 companies registered for Campus Placements offering job vacancies of about 1667. The number of companies which finally visited on-site campus placements were 330, out of which 221 companies have recruited 1161 students. Total 170 students got off campus placement offers i.e. in total 1331 students have been placed till date.

Chairperson: Ms. Varsha Gupta The Masters program in Design Space is designed to create a new avenue for professionals for higher education. This course is designed to focus towards Industry related Research & Development and also the Design academia. This program offers an interdisciplinary focus by understanding that Design is a field of amalgamation of various disciplines, which results in to innovative design practices, the outcome of which will be the various Design industry projects. The program has across discipline students who are able to work beyond boundaries and bring together their skills and ideas in new and exciting way taking the existing skill set to a higher level of research and practice. The curriculum provides an opportunity to students to researchonnewdesignparadigmsandideatesopportunities which are appropriate for contemporary market. Such ideas are fostered in interdisciplinary environment, guided by senior level faculty, industry experts and such innovative design ideas are prototyped in major and minor projects. The applied research environment provided here would give a much needed platform for answering questions which may arise in the future of design scenarios.

Year 1
Common Foundation Programme in Design
Chairperson: Ms. Vibhavari Kumar The Department of Fashion Communication discipline is richly contextual, concerned with meaning, purpose and judgment. An understanding of how design can intervene naturally, and help in general sense-making of our world, is therefore key to this discipline. A community of beginners comprising industryexperienced faculty and enthusiastic students who explore and experiment with art and design pedagogies, aesthetics, values and innovative practices, constitute of the department. A multi-disciplinary approach inculcates self-initiated learningandindependentthinkingandexpandsperceptual perspectives. Regular interaction with industry experts in areas like Visual merchandising, Graphic Design, Fashion Photography & Styling, Fashion Journalist, Public relation & Event management-forms a vital bridge between classroom teaching and relative experience. The word Communication needs to be seen in the most holistic manner possible to understand the vast range of thought processes and activities it encompasses. In Fashion Communication, we have the resources to realize our students potential to the fullest. The numerous success stories in the industry substantiate this fact. Fashion communication aims to create design professionals and entrepreneurs with the appropriate sensitivity and sensibility to address societal needs
Year 2
The process of introduction and orientation to communication design is addressed through subjects like Fashion Studies, History and Philosophy of Design, Communication Concepts & Processes, Writing Skills, Consumer Behavior in Fashion, Computer Application, Graphic Design, Visual Merchandising, Photography and Design Methodology. The pedagogical tools employed are of theory, exploration, and application.
Year 3
The third year delves deeper into the core discipline areas with greater emphasis on creative thinking. In the fifth and sixth semesters, the approach evolves from cognition to problem solving. Subjects like Visual Merchandising, Graphic Design, Styling and Photography, and Fashion Journalism are studied in more detail, with emphasis on project work. Just before the fifth semester, students are sensitized to craft clusters in the interior states of India: Communication Design solutions are proposed for promotion and upliftment of the crafts. At the end of sixth semester, students work on Internship projects, with the industry, so as to understand the industry environment and also apply their learning in the final year.
Year 4
The students will develop a deeper understanding of their area of specialization through further research, contextual studies and seminars. All the learning culminates into a final graduation project which is showcased as the finale to the course.

The 4 year Knitwear Design programme is multipronged in nature. It aims at developing design professionals with creative thinking skills, technical skills and a dynamic market orientation in the field of knitted apparel. At the end of the seventh semester, an eighteen week Design Collection project is undertaken by each student. The ability to blend constantly evolving technology and trends, specific to the area of the Knitwear Industry along with a strong creative design process sets the tone for each Design Collection.
