Calculate the length and area of cross section. If the wire is uniformly stretched to double the its length; calculate the new resistance. Density of copper is 8.92 103 kg/ m3 and resistivity is 1.7 108 m . 6. (a) At what temperature would the resistance of a copper conductor be double of its value at 0o C ? (b) Does this same temperature hold for all copper conductors, regardless of shape and size? ( cu = 4 103 / 0 C ) 7. A carbon and an Aluminium wire are connected in series. If the combination has resistance of 30 at 0 0 C, what is the resistance of each wire at 0 0C so that the resistance of the combination does not 3 0 3 0 change with temperature? ( c = 0.5 10 / C And A = 4 10 / C ) 8. A potential difference is applied across the filament of a bulb at t=0 and it is maintained at a constant value while the filament gets heated to its equilibrium temperature. We find that final current in the filament is one sixth of the current drawn at t=0. If the temperature of the filament at t=0 is 20 0C and the temperature coefficient of resistivity at 20 0C is 0.0043 / 0C , find the final temperature of the filament. 9. If two bulbs of 25W and 100W rated at 220V are connected in series across a 440V supply, will both the bulb fuse? If not, which one? 10. Two tungsten lamps with resistances R1 and R2 respectively are connected in first in parallel and then in series in a lighting circuit of negligible internal resistance if R1 > R2 : (a) Which lamp will glow brightly when they are connected in parallel? (b) If the lamp of resistance R1 now burns out, how will the net illumination produced change? (c) Which lamp will glow brightly when they are connected in series?
