British Army: 2300AD Deployment Forces

Introduction

The bulk of the British regular army is assigned to a pool of forces dedicated for operations outside of the British Isles and across Terra. Some are stationed on British soil and others have garrison posts overseas but all are available for operations if required. Increasingly however as large numbers of British troops have been sent up-Arm to fight the Kafers the forces on Earth have slipped down the list of priorities in order to build up the expeditionary forces.

They are divided between the UK Joint Reaction Forces and I (British) Corps. The UKJRF is a joint service group of units that can be used as the spearhead of a British intervention anywhere world-wide. I (British) Corps is the heavy combat force of the British Army, capable of undertaking the most intense military operations against first rate enemy forces.

I (British) Corps

I Corps is based in Aldershot in the south-east of England. I Corps is designated to deploy anywhere on Earth with up to 3 British Divisions together with Allied forces in support of British interests. The Corps has an attached recce group. It is the main controlling force for British heavy combat operations, indeed with the departure of II Corps to the French it is the only major, on-Earth mobile headquarters. Historically I Corps is the longest established higher British HQ, being in existence since before 1900. Contingency planning is mainly concerned with European operations and possible expeditionary forces to the South Atlantic or South America in the event of a 4th Rio Plato War.

Corps Recce Group

I Corps CRG is a large body of recce formations, each with its own specialities available to the Corps. It is a 'golf bag' of units, both regular and TA, from which a tailored formation can be produced for any given deployment. It includes special forces, artillery observers, close recce infantry, urban recce and depth recce formations. The large size of the CRG is a result of many of the II Corps CRG leaving behind many of its units when it moved up arm.

United Kingdom Joint Reaction Forces

The UKJRF are a grouping of units designated as lead elements of any British military intervention. They are based around brigade groups of infantry forces, which are organised to allow ease of movement. The heaviest equipped are the Commando Brigades which normally operate from the assault ships of the RN, and can draw upon heavy support from their divisional units. In addition to Army units the UKJRF is also able to call upon Royal Navy and Royal Air Force formations.

15 Air Assault Brigade is organised to act as either an entry force for European interventions or as a pivot force for I Corps in conventional operations. 16 Air Assault Brigade has recently re-equipped with Raven aerodynes and has immense flexibility for intervention missions anywhere in the world. 1 Light Brigade is tasked with either interventions or peacekeeping operations, however it has not yet recovered from its service on the French Arm against the Kafers.

1st Commando Division, Royal Marines

Based in Plymouth although with brigades widely dispersed in Arctic, Antarctic and now on the French Arm. The Commando Division has been the leading British intervention asset over the last two hundred years, a role it is only just handing over. The Commando Division is organised for amphibious landings in co-operation with the Royal Navy. The Cdo Div has recently re-organised its DRG with the heavy 3 RTR deploying off-world and being replaced by the battle hardened 4 DG. A close recce battalion has also been recently formed building on the expertise of M Squadron and the Brigade Recce Squadrons and has received the historic 41 Commando name.

15th Air Assault Brigade

This brigade is based in Colchester, England. It trains for interventions in the European continent and indeed was forward deployed to the Netherlands during the Franco-German War of 2292. Currently it is somewhat understrength as it has had to continuously find drafts for the Parachute Regiment battalions fighting on the French Arm.

16th Air Assault Brigade

16 AA Bde is based at a series of bases around Dishforth in Yorkshire in the north of England. It has recently re-equipped with Raven aircraft, vastly increasing its operational radius. Troop levels have also suffered although the brigade is in better shape than 15 AA Bde.

1st Light Brigade Group

Currently based at Tidworth in England, 1 Light Bde formed a vital part of the legendary Light Division during the fighting on Beta Canum, but suffered heavily for it. The brigade has recently been relieved by a Wellonese brigade on Beowulf and has returned to Earth. Of the infantry battalions only 4 LI was part of the original complement, the other battalions have been moved to other duties in order to recover. To replace them two Irish battalions have been brought into the unit, and these are currently finishing their training as light battalions. 1 Light Bde is currently the UK contingency brigade for off-world operations on the American or Chinese Arms.
