OHSU Student Council (SC) 2/8/13, 12:00-1:00/1:30pm Location: MRB 310 Called to order: Attendants: Joe Kent (President), Nate Risley (Vice President), Molly Harding (Vice President), Kassi Kronfeld (Vice President), Will Giardino (Pulse Editor), Quinn Martin (Website Coordinator), K.C. Gilbert (Director of Communications), Kristin Belford, Maria Purice, Lilly Winfree, Gurion Lantz, Ethan Beckley, Bob Praraat, Stephanie Wetzel, Soroush Amali, Ray Reeves, Andrew Sloan, Sarah Loney, Alison Stengrim, Jing Chen, Tarah Authier, Tori Lennox, Monica Luttrell, Jaclyn Thiessen Welcome/Food/Drinks (10 minutes) Approval of Past Minutes (1 minute): There was a first motion, second motion, and full approval of past meeting minutes. Funding Request (10 minutes): o Institute for Healthcare Improvement Interdisciplinary Symposium: This event is open to all OHSU students and will feature a presentation by Dr. Bruce Goldberg on developing Coordinated Care Organizations in Oregon as well as an expert panel. The event includes a light reception with adult beverages. The event will be held March 7th. The total cost of the event is estimated to be $2,450 and they are requesting $700. Approval was granted for funding for this event with two members of council in opposition. o Trampoline Dodge ball Tournament: This is a fundraising event put on by the PA school that is open to students from all programs. The event will take place on March 9th. The total cost of the event is estimated to be $1,500 and the fundraising request is for $500. Approval was granted to the full amount of funds for this event. o Quiz Bowl: The Quiz Bowl is a jeopardy style competition between teams of students from various OHSU professional programs. The majority of the cost of this event goes towards food and prizes for the winners. The event is tentatively set for April 4 th or the 11th. The estimated cost of the event is $1,300 and the fundraising request is for $1,000. This event has received $500 from All-Hill SC in the past. Approval was granted to the full amount of funds for this event. o Global Health Conference: The theme of this conference is Global Health in Changing Environments and will present a line up of speakers and panelists covering the following

topics: 1) Sharing the worlds resources 2) Human rights and health 3) Migrant, refugee, and IDP health 4) Policy, law, and health 5) Ethics in global health 6) Changing patterns of disease 7) technology revolution and health. This event includes a mix of students and health professionals. It is an integration of many aspects of health. The total cost of the event is estimated to be $48,000 and the funding request is for $5,000. Approval was granted for $1,000 of funds for this event. o HCEWStudent Organizers: Health Care Equality Week is a student organized interdisciplinary event that presents a weeklong lecture series for the students and culminates in a Health Screening Fair on Sunday March 17th, 2013 with participation from all OHSU professional programs. The total cost of the event is estimated to be $5,143 and the funding request is for $1,100. These two requests have been combined to request $1,100 total. This will go towards the event and will include the pharmacys participation. Approval was granted for the full amount for this event. o HCEW Health FairPharmacy: HCEW is a multi-disciplinary health fair providing screenings to the underserved population of Portland. These funds will go towards OTC medication to be distributed by the pharmacy school. The total cost of providing this service is $1,500 and the funding request is for $1,000. Student center proposal: The All-Hill proposal to have exercise equipment in the student center has been initially denied. Regular Updates (20 minutes) Student Health Center (Sarah Lemley): There were over 500 student responses given for Student Healths latest survey. Student insurance premiums will increase. There has been discussion on how to decrease the cost of these premiums. One option is to remove the continuation plan. Student Newsletter Committee (William Giardino): The next addition of the student newsletter will be out late April. Student Center Planning Committee (Karen Seresun): American Red Cross blood drive will be Friday the 16th of February from 8 am-6 pm. On March 1st the virtual textbook store will be available to students. A link to the store will be on Ozone. A Mug of Joe event will be held at the student center Friday March 15th. Intramurals (Heather Ennis): Intramurals are in full swing and going great. Website Coordinator (Quinn Martin): Ideas were presented for achieving more likes for the All-Hill facebook page.

Library (Laura Zeigen): There is discussion for having therapy dogs available at the library during finals week.
