Magpie, Inc. Westminster, CO 2006- 2010 Magpie is a software engineering job shop with a telecommunications focus. Partnered with the VP of Strategy and Business Development to pioneer Magpies Smart Grid consulting practice. This activity led directly to the merger of Magpie with GEC later in 2010. Conducted requirements elicitation with healthcare professionals to architect a WIFI based system for communication-enabling hospital care protocols, eliminating medical errors and increasing the amount of nurse-patient interaction by facilitating automated information capture & reducing chart time. Spearheaded requirements elicitation and analysis and created formal requirements documents and database designs for both customers and internal projects, including the concept of operations for the above-mentioned healthcare product.
Storage Technology Corporation (StorageTek) and Sun Microsystems 1998-2006 Sun Microsystems acquired StorageTek in September, 2005 and gradually migrated StorageTeks innovative storage appliance efforts towards an open server-centric strategy. As a Sun Distinguished Engineer: Advised the Sun CTO and participated in Intellectual Property and Emerging Technology reviews with fellow Distinguished Engineers from all product areas. Oversaw the re-shoring and porting to the Solaris O/S of the Continuous Data Protection project. Assembled a local team to oversee the scaling up of the product to a Solaris-hosted enterprise data protection solution using Suns innovative ZFS file system as the backing store for the CDP appliance.
Instigated and oversaw a comprehensive external quality review upon re-shoring the code base. Becoming the first and only woman so honored in the 45-year history of StorageTek, was elected in 2004 to the position of StorageTek Fellow, the technical-track equivalent of a Director, in recognition of ground-breaking work in Continuous Data Protection and virtual storage, after holding senior management and technical-track positions. Fellows are elected by a consensus of executives and peers. Managed an R&D team of 20 engineers developing StorageTeks recovery software applications (C++). Drove development process and software quality improvements, leading to 40% reduction in customer issues and 15% reduction in time to market. Led a newly-formed Requirements and Architecture Team, investigating NAS and SAN options for new products at StorageTek. Authored Vision, Functional Specifications, and patent disclosures for product proposals. Drove products through readiness gate process, coordinating functional teams to meet schedule & requirements. Established appropriate standards, metrics, and practices for remote-managing a large-scale offshore project (18 developers in Bangalore, 21 quality assurance professionals in Chennai, and 6 developers in Toulouse, France). Conceived, evangelized, and led the effort to develop Continuous Data Protection technology. StorageTek received 4 International Product of the Year awards for the resulting EchoView E400 appliance during 2003-2004.
