NEEDS ASSESSMENT Ophthalmologists must stay at the top of their game constantly updating their practice by incorporating new evidence-based therapies, surgical techniques and scientific insights. Results of needs assessments indicate an educational need for a succinct update on the latest developments in ophthalmology from experts in the field utilizing didactic instruction, video presentations, panel discussions and interactive roundtable sessions. This course is designed to change physician performance in the areas of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology and cataract surgery. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES At the end of the program, participants should be able to:
List the indications for use of the implantable miniature telescope (IMT) in order to select patients appropriate for this technology. Discuss the current screening recommendations for patients on plaquenil therapy in order to prevent visual complications associated with this medication. Compare and contrast the different aqueous shunts available for the surgical management of glaucoma in order to maximize surgical outcomes. Discuss new developments in the genetics of Stargardts Disease, coloboma and microphthalmia in order to develop an awareness of the complex issues associated with these rare conditions. Discuss how employers must adjust their management style for employees with different personality types in order to foster a productive work environment.
