Position Title: Reports to: Department: Date Revised: FLSA Status: Summary: This individual participates in research and development activities. Conducts experiments, submits reports on findings, and works closely with other departments in the company to transfer new vaccine formulations or methods. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Executes experiments with novel formulations or methodologies for current/new vaccines in accordance with approved protocols. 2. Conducts relevant laboratory or animal experiments under the guidance R&D scientists or Director of R&D. 3. Ensures that all resources are available to conduct experiments and trials; this includes lab equipment, lab supplies, and scheduling R&D Technicians as appropriate. 4. Utilizes established mathematical and scientific techniques to compile and analyze data. 5. Writes technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations using approved scientific reporting templates and guidelines under the guidance of Senior Research Scientists or Director of R&D. 6. Presents on scientific research quarterly to other members of the R&D department, members from other technical teams, such as Process Improvement, and management, including Directors and the CEO. 7. Assists in troubleshooting Production performance issues such as, but not limited to, potency and stability assays and manufacture techniques. 8. Assists in the identification and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. 9. Assists in the transfer and implementation of new methods to other company departments including, but not limited to, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs, Process Improvement, and Production. 10. Ensures animal trials and laboratory experiments are conducted according to protocols; provide guidance, training, and oversight of R&D Technicians as appropriate. 11. Ensure the laboratory and work areas are kept clean and organized following the corresponding SOPs or company policies. 12. Understands and follows the Biosecurity policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Recognizes potential issues and communicates deviations in a timely manner to their supervisor(s). Qualifications: Must have a Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences; an Associates Degree and five (5) years research experience will be considered in lieu of BS degree. The candidates must demonstrate at least 6 months of hands-on laboratory experience. specified time frames. Must demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and initiative. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent planning and organizing skills, as well as proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Must be quality minded, detailed oriented, conscientious and responsible. Must have the ability to interpret and analyze technical data for evaluating results and solving problems. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be open minded and positive in regard to change, with a focus on continual improvement. Must be enthusiastic about learning new things and have a passion for research. Must have proven exceptional attention to detail, be quality minded and demonstrate initiative. Flexibility to work weekends/evenings is required and be comfortable with tight timelines and/or changing priorities.
