Sheet (4) 1) A buck chopper operates at 1 kHz. The DC voltage source is 100 V and the load resistance and inductance is 10 and 50 mH respectively. If the average value of the load voltage is 50 V, determine; (a) The average value of the load current (b) The maximum value of the load current (c) The minimum value of the load current (d) The peak to peak ripple current (e) The minimum inductance required for continuous current operation (f) Repeat (e , d) if the frequency is increased to 5 kHz and Comment on the results. (g) Repeat (d) if the inductance is increased to 250 mH and Comment on the results. Which system you would recommend? Why? 2) A buck converter is supplied from a 50V battery source. Given L=400uH, C=100uF, R=20 Ohm, f=20KHz and D=0.4. Calculate: (a) The output voltage. (b) The maximum and minimum inductor current. (c) The output voltage ripple. 3) A buck converter has an input voltage of 50V and output of 25V. The switching frequency is 10KHz. The power output is 125W. Determine; (a) The duty cycle. (b) The value of inductance to limit the peak inductor current to 6.25A. (c) The value of capacitance to limit the output voltage ripple factor to 0.5%. 4) Design a buck converter such that the output voltage is 28V when the input is 48V. The load is 8o Ohm. Design the converter such that it will be in continuous current mode. The output voltage ripple must not be more than 0.5%. Specify the frequency and the values of each component. 5) A Boost chopper supplying power to a load having a load resistance and inductance of 20 and 10 mH respectively. The source voltage is 50 v dc. If the average value of the load voltage is 75 V, and the On time is 1 ms, find; (a) The duty cycle. (b) The average value of the input current (c) The average value of the load current (d) The chopper switching frequency. (e) The maximum and minimum inductor current. (f) The peak to peak ripple current (g) The minimum inductance required for continuous current operation 6) A Boost converter is supplied from a 20V battery source. Given L=65uH, C=200uF, R=12.5 Ohm, f=40KHz and D=0.6. Calculate: (a) The output voltage. (b) The maximum and minimum inductor current. (c) The output voltage ripple. 7) Design a Boost converter such that the output voltage is 36V when the input is 24V. The load power is 50 Watt. Design the converter such that it will be in continuous current mode. The output voltage ripple must not be more than 0.5%. Specify the frequency and the values of each component.
