Triangles combine to form quadrilaterals

Materials required: Constructive triangles: then, prepared labels rhombus, parallelogram (three labels), square, rectangle, trapezoid. Invitation: You have already worked with constructive triangles. Today shall we build some quadrilaterals with the constructive triangle box? Preparation: Call a group of children and ask one child to spread the mat and them to bring the material to work area. (Adult removes all the pieces from the box and places them on the upper left of the mat) Presentation: Adult: places one triangle in front of the child and ask which triangle is this? Child: right angled isosceles triangle. Adult: ask the child to bring down the two right angled isosceles triangles and map it? Child: does. Adult: which shape you made? Child: square

Adult: places another triangle in front of the child and ask which type of triangle is this? Child: equilateral triangle. Adult: ask the child to bring down the two equilateral triangles and map it. Child: does. Adult: which quadrilateral can make out of this? Child: rhombus.

Adult: places another triangle in front of the child and ask what about this triangle. Child: right angled scalene triangle. Adult: ask the child to bring down the two right angled scalene triangles and map it Child: does. Adult: which shape you made? Child: rectangle.

Adult: places another triangle in front of the child and ask what about this triangle. Child: acute angled scalene triangle. Adult: ask the child to bring down the two obtuse angle scalene triangle and map it. Child: does. Adult: which shape you made? Or which quadrilateral can make out of this? Child: trapezium.

Winding up: Mix up everything and ask them to give the name slips to match. Encourage the students to continue with the pairs of triangle to make quadrilaterals with other boxes of constructive triangles. Follow up: Ask them work out in the same way. Ask them to make a booklet and record it.

How many quadrilaterals can you make using various triangles

Materials required: Constructive triangles: blue box.labels of rhombus, parallelogram, square, rectangle, trapezoid, concave quadrilateral, journal and pencil. Invitation: You have already worked with constructive triangles. Today we can make some figures out of triangles. Preparation: Adult call a group of children and ask them to bring the constructive triangles (blue box) at the place of presentation. Presentation: Adult: places one triangle and asks can you name this triangle by its angle and sides. Child: right angled isosceles triangle. Adult: ask the child to take another right angled isosceles triangle. Ask the child to join the two triangles. After that ask the students what shape he has made? Child: square.

Adult: can you make a different figure using the same triangle? Child: may or may not say. Adult: place it aside and bring down the figure and ask which figure is this? Child: rhombus.

Adult: ask the student to set the right angle isosceles triangles aside and ask what happen to this quadrilateral which figure is this? Child: parallelogram.

Adult: out of 2 right angle isosceles triangle we can make three quadrilateral square, parallelogram and rhombus. Adult: ask the student to take the two right scalene triangle and ask them to join. Which shape do you made? Child: rectangle.

Adult: ask the students to take the remaining triangles and ask whether these two are identical to each other. Child: no. Adult: which figure we can make with these two different scalene triangle? Child: trapezoid.

Adult: can you make another figure using this trapezoid. Child: no Adult: we can make one more figure from two different scalene triangles ie concave quadrilateral.

Winding up: 1) gives the name slips and ask the child to read and place it below the proper quadrilateral . 2) dismantle everything and ask them to make them properly and ask them to find out how many quadrilateral they got. 3) Ask the child to draw and color the quadrilaterals in his journals. Follow up: Make a booklet of quadrilaterals. Work with other boxes in the same manner and make a record of it.

Learning type of quadrilateral using cabinet

Materials required: Geometric cabinet: quadrilateral drawers, label for each quadrilaterals, paper, pencil. Invitation: Today shall we learn more about quadrilateral. Preparation: Call a group of children and ask one child to spread the mat. Adult arranges the drawers according to the presentation and ask the child to carry it to the work area. Presentation: (Adult takes the insets along with the frame) Adult: Placing the square infront of the child and asks what is this? Child: square. Adult: How many sides does it has? Child: four sides Adult: What do we call four sided figure ? Child: quadrilateral Adult: Shall we check all the sides of square? Child: All the sides are equal and all angles are also equal. Adult: Placing the rhombus (inset along with frame) near to the square and asks what is this? Child: Rhombus. Adult: What about the sides? Shall we check all the sides of rhombus? all the sides are equal but the angles are different. Adult: Placing the rectangle (inset along with frame) near to the rhombus and asks what is this? Child: rectangle. Adult: what about the sides? Shall we check all the sides of rectangle? Opposite sides are equal and also parallel to each other and all the angles are right angles. Adult: Placing the parallelogram (inset along with frame )near to the rectangle and asks what is this? Child: parallelogram. Adult: What about the sides? Shall we check all the sides of parallelogram? Opposite sides are equal and parallel to each other but the angles are not right angles. Adult: Placing trapezium (inset along with frame) near to the parallelogram and asks what is this? Child: trapezium Adult: what about the sides? Shall we check all the sides of trapezium? Two sides are parallel and two sides are not parallel. Adult: Placing trapezoid (inset along with frame) near to the trapezium and asks what is this? Child: Trapezoid.

Adult: What about the sides? Shall we check all the sides of trapezoid? It is a trapezium with right angle and two sides are parallel. Winding up: 1) Give the nameslips and asks the child to match to the appropriate shapes. 2) Ask the child to identify and compare each quadrilateral. Follow up: 1) Ask the child to make a booklet of quadrilateral. 2) Ask them to draw some quadrilaterals and make some pattern using quadrilaterals.
