COOKOUT CONTEST 2013

ELIGIBILITY Any Iowa resident 13 years or older is eligible to participate in the Cookout Contest. Past cookout champions and Farm Bureau or affiliated company employees or are not allowed to compete. HOW TO ENTER Interested grillers should contact Great River Days (greatriverdays.com 563571-0155 or kkeller@machlink.com) or the Muscatine County Farm Bureau(563-263-8855) office for contest information. In order to compete in the Iowa State Fair contest, participants must have competed at the county level and won their category. The county office will submit those winners interested in competing at the state level. primal cuts including ground chuck or ground round - no brisket)

- LAMB - POULTRY - TURKEY - COMBO/SPECIALTY A recipe combining two or more meats from the eligible meat categories. Specialty - Domestically raised meats including venison, goat, fish, etc. excluding wild game

TEAM CATEGORY RULES Refer to both the Iowa Meat and Showmanship Scorecards for judging criteria. A team must consist of 2-4 members. Team members are NOT eligible to compete in the Individual Category. Teams are encouraged to have a coordinated theme or dress code.

All contestants are asked to provide 3 plates for judging. All contest rules are the same as the State Fair competition. In the event the first place winner cannot or chooses not to participate in the State Fair competition the second place winner will qualify to go. Good Food handling and preparation guidelines must be followed. Team members are NOT eligible to win the title of Cookout Champion or the Showmanship Award. CONTEST RULES The State entry must be the same recipe that won the local contest. The delivery and loading/unloading of all equipment including meat and grill is the responsibility of each contestant. Good food handling and preparation guidelines must be followed.

Appetizing color, is the garnish attractive? Does the prepared product have eye appeal? Originality: Is the recipe suitable for outdoor cooking? 10 Is it an original idea, or a good adaptation? 10 Total Possible Score 100

Showmanship: Use of side dishes to complement meat dish 10 Contestants apparel (suitable for outdoor cooking) 10 Chefs knowledge of product and use of equipment-Culinary Flair 35 Does this recipe have consumer appeal?
