two images in which one supports the idea that creativity in schools should be eliminated through promoting standardized testing while others argue the importance of creativity in schools through displaying pill containers. The fact that two sides of the argument are supported here represents all those people would like to keep both standardized testing in schools and creativity. For these people standardized testing is a way to assess what students have learned but also know the importance of creativity. Supported with descriptions of both images the reader should be able to understand both sides of the argument. At first glance image one. Strikes its viewer with a sense of immense negativity. The image is made up of only a few objects. The pill containers both opened and closed, all with labels on them. The labels more than likely are prescription labels which include its consumers general information such as a name, address, dosage, and probably even birthday. Two of these pill containers are opened. The top is off but is seems as though the pill containers have been spilt. On the desk two kinds of pills pour out of their containers creating what seems to be a mess. The image shows white pills and red pills. The red pills are significantly larger than the white pills. The background of the image is dark black almost, generating a sense of fear or some other form of negativity, perhaps anger. The container in which red pills are pouring out of has no lid, but a bar code is clearly seen. This image reflects far more than what can be seen. As mentioned above there are several pill containers in the image on a desk. This could mean one of two things.

Lista 2 Thefirst is that the image is trying to tell its viewer that he or she has options. With so many kinds of pills a doctor is able to issue a pill that is perfect for its consumer, in this case for the students. It is implied that some of these pills are for children because of the images on the pill containers. Secondly all the containers in the image may mean that students take more than one pill a day to help them properly function throughout the school day. Functioning properly includes staying focused, controlling emotional stability, and maybe even food intake. The students of this era are exposed to so many pills. So kids not only take the pills prescribed to them for school but also for any other thing like a head ache or another pain. This means another pill is added to all the other ones being taken. Pills come in all shapes and colors. Looking at the image it is safe to infer that because the red pill is much larger than the white pill this pill is stronger. Not only does its size make it more powerful but also its color, red. Red is a color that symbolizes strength and power. The color black is also clearly seen in the image. Its dark background creating shadows give of a negative and haunted feel. Its almost as though ghosts are reflected in the image because of these shadows. Ghosts tend to negatively impact people, and along with the color black this image is has a very spooky feel. Perhaps this means that the students taking these pills live negative lives. They may be haunted by the idea that they may never reach success, haunted by the pressure of parents, haunted by these pills themselves, just as ghosts haunt people. The appeal represented in the image is pathos, because it mentally and literally affects the viewers emotions. Lastly the images appear spaced out; this may mean that students maintain the relationships in their lives very distantly. This can be classified as poor relationships with teachers,

Lista 3 parents, siblings, and peer. Maybe the student feels like he or she is standing alone. The pill containers in the images background symbolize all the students who stand alone and who feel empty inside. This also stands for all the students who feel ignorant because they cannot pass a math test, the ones who feel like failures. Then there are those students who are good at painting or creative writing, and the ones who are passionate about the sport that they play. These pill containers standing lonely in the background represent them these students as well. Their talent is looked at as something that will not provide them with a financially stable future, or simply as something childish. As mentioned before the image has a black back ground. Perhaps this may represent all the students who black out on pills because they cant take the idea of possibly becoming a failure. All the pill containers represent the idea that many students are taking more than one pill a day. On the same note all the pill containers of he image may also represent all the problems a student has. This idea is displayed through the pill containers in the image standing alone. The pill containers that have fallen over may signify that the student has already hit rock bottom. Its almost as though a very frustrated student was in desperate need of medication. He or she must have been in a rush because both containers were left without their lids on and the tablets resting on the counter. The argument this image makes is that people in todays society are condemned to taking pills every day and is especially true for students. The image suggests that students are being pressured into taking pills in so that they will be educationally successful though standardized testing. Through the use of taking pills it is implied that a student will have a brighter future such as becoming a lawyer or perhaps a doctor because they make a student smarter and more focused.

Lista 4 At first glance of them image I was reminded of communism. The father of communism is known as Karl Marx who intended this form of government to be one that would equally benefit all of the societys people. The idea was that the poor would have chance in society. What he wanted was to create a balance within a nation. Precisely, a balance is the main and only object of this image. There are only two other thing reflected in the image. The first is a beam of light. Interestingly, the beam of light is shinning on the right side of the balance. It is safe for viewers to conclude that although the balance is set as equal the right side seems to have more power. This thought is generated through the idea that yes in theory standardized testing provides and assessment to all students which supports the equal side, but then there is the fact that not all students are equal, which contributes to the fact that although it seems equal in reality it is no.This power could represent the countries located on the right side of the world, such as China, India, And Russia. These countries are said to have high education systems, with standardized testing enforced. Pehaps this means that in order for the U.S. to obtain more power, standardized testing should become more apparent. The second thing represented by the image are clouds. The clouds are hovering over both sides of the balance creating a sense of darkness. Perhaps this means that education as a whole is reaching its failing point. Here too it is implied that because the United States is competing globally with other countries, the U.S. wants to find a balance. The balance is made up of a metal cross like looking rod that is holding up a metal plate by chains at each side. A perfect balance is created in the image which represents the idea that creativity and education are offered/taught in schools equally. This balance also represents the idea that through standardized testing all students are given an equal opportunity to succeed. The balance works in favor of standardized testing because its whole purpose is to find a balance in education as mentioned above. The appeal that this image appeals to is ethos. Ethos means

Lista 5 authority. Through the balance displayed in this image it is implied that authority is needed to reach a balance, especially on a worldwide level. Here the idea of communism as mentioned above also comes into play. Another concept relating to ethos is the all the authority the U.S. government has to implement standardized Testing. Over all this argues that standardized testing creates equal opportunity for all students. Through standardized testing every student is given an equal opportunity to shine, and to pass or fail based strictly on their own merits and their own hard work. With equal opportunity, all will have the chance to succeed.
