PHILIP MINCHER Philip Mincer (1930-) was born and educated in Auckland, New Zealand.

He has written more (1) __________ fifty short stories, which have been published in journals and anthologies, and he has also published a collection of poems, Heroes and Clerks. His stories often reflect his own love of wildlife and the outdoor life. ANNE RANASINGHE Anne Ranasinghe was born as Anneliese Katz in Germany. In 1939, (4)__________ she was thirteen, her parents sent her to England to escape from the Nazis. VIJITA FERNANDO Vijita Fernando is a Sri Lankan journalist, translator, and writer of fiction. (8)_________ graduating from the University of Ceylon, she worked for (9)__________ thirty years at the Ceylon Daily News, where she was a feature writer, editor of the Womens Page, and the Childrens Page. She has written two collections of short stories in English, Eleven Stories (1985) and Oces, on a Mountainside (1995). In 2002 she won the Gratiaen Award for creative writing. She has also translated a number of works (10)_________ her native Sinhala to English, for which she has won several national literary awards. She says that her stories do not attempt to project a message, nor do they carry a moral. She lives in Sri Lanka.
