Beliefs of the UPR-Cayey Students about Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Research Question
What do UPR-Cayey students, between the ages of 17 to 22 think about elective aesthetic surgery?

Methodology

Interviews

Students from the UPR-Cayey between the ages of 17 to 22 years were interviewed using a semi-structure format.

Literature Review

Many students between 17 and 22 are interest in plastic surgery Psychological problems affect directly in the decision making for a plastic surgery; depression, shame, social anxiety and frustration are the most common The reason for teenagers having plastic surgeries is psychological and involves body image

Literature Review

Students most common surgeries are breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation and ear reduction. Studies revealed that this data continue increasing

Literature Review

Many students think that surgery will reduce the symptoms of psychological distress Patients should be free of psychopathology because the psychological issues often continue after surgery The physician is who determines if the patient is prepared to have a plastic surgery

Findings

Girls were most determined in getting plastic surgeries The surgery girls most wanted was breast augmentation The boys were less interested in getting a plastic surgery The surgery boys most wanted surgery was liposuction or rhinoplasty Some of the girls interviewed have already breast augmentation or breast reduction Students think that having a procedure will increase their self confidence Non of the boys interviewed had a plastic surgery

Findings

Students reasons for having plastic surgery are based on the prototype that the media had created and their own dislikes Most of the students that want a plastic surgery will get the money in any form Students think that having an aesthetic surgery will contribute to society The information that students most know came from TV programs and internet Students are not well informed about this topic and many would like to be more informed

Summary

Analyzing all the data collected demonstrates that students are not well informed about aesthetic surgery but yes they are interested in having them. They dont think on how much it costs they just want them to fill better with themselves.

Students should be more informed about all the aspects of aesthetic surgery The plastic surgery is increasing everyday more in young people Plastic surgery is causing a very big impact in society. Its a boom.

Conclusion

Through interviews and media analysis I found that students think that aesthetic surgery:

Is a solution for depression and psychological symptoms Would help them to have the body of a famous person or look alike Contributes to society positively and negatively Should be more talked in universities so they can be well informed Is an impact to society that is increasing everyday
