Problem
Statement
People
dedicate
a
tremendous
amount
of
6me
and
eort
to
the
transport
of
water
throughout
the
developing
world.
The
non-governmental
organiza6on
(NGO)
Blue
Planet
Network
es6mates
Africans
spent
40
billion
hours
per
year
to
collect
and
haul
water.
Strategies
for
gathering
water
vary
depending
on
the
water
source.
Water
gathered
from
rivers
is
typically
far
from
its
point
of
use
in
order
to
accommodate
seasonal
changes
in
water
level.
The
NGO
Hope
Make
Care
has
tasked
your
team
to
Develop
a
manual
means
of
transpor6ng
water
from
pools
associated
with
rivers
in
rural
communi6es.
The
water
transport
system
should
use
metal
durable
and
low-cost
or
salvageable
plumbing
and
bicycle
pumps
to
move
water
from
a
source
that
is
17
feet
below
and
15
feet
away
from
its
point
of
use.
Once
transported,
this
water
can
be
used
for
shower.
Your
teams
design
should
maximize
the
rate
of
water
transported
while
minimizing
the
amount
of
manual
labor
as
well
as
the
cost.
Once
constructed,
the
system
can
only
be
manually
operated
from
the
point
of
use.
Your
team
is
encouraged
to
u6lize
recycled
materials
to
construct
a
low
cost
system.
