BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE PLOT: A retired hockey player revives his career as a coach and wants to prove that womens hockey is as good or better than the mens hockey team. The team consisting of players form all part of India is suffering from clash of egos .He wants to lead the team to a world cup victory .Does he succeed in doing this ? WHAT YOU LIKED ABOUT THE MOVIE: THE movie is all about putting your soul and heart and mind and body into the task and having a do or die attitude. A very inspiring movie this is for young minds like us. The movie also teaches us that teamwork and leadership skills are THE skills to use either in a hockey team or a class room team .These skills can also be easily followed in an office atmosphere.

WHAT YOU DID NOT LIKE ABOUT THE MOVIE: I did not like the fact that the girls have to prove much more harder than the boys in any situation to be taken seriously. So this hockey player has to convince her to be husband to wait for her world cup matches to be over to get married.

Some people have commented that you can see a resemblance of this movie to A League of their OWN I feel sad when movies are remade --- we have a tremendous amount of talent in UAE ,still we fail to recognize and try to run after CHAracterization: ALL the roles and characters have been made well. Each

Why the film was worth watching/not watching: The film is worth watching as it is not only entertaining but also has lessons in firstly in unity and management, team building working with equal egos people.

The director mainly wanted to bring to light a similar situation experienced by the sportsman NEGI. The film also brings to limelight the sport of Hockey which was actually a good change. It also encourages people to choose sports as a career rather than a hobby.

I found this movie extremely inspiring and would want to watch it again. It is a movie to be seen again and again more or less like a reference book. Going back ot it when faced with a problem situation in life.

Star Rating : 4 stars

Former Indian hockey coach Mir Ranjan Negi was all praise for Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan saying he was overwhelmed by his dedication towards work and respect for elders. Recounting his experience while working with Shahrukh in Aditya Chopra's 'Chak de India' -- a film that draws inspiration from Negi's life --, he told UNI here today that he found that the actor was full of dynamism. True spirit of sports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by simpleman on Aug 20, 2007 11:52 AM Permalink Chak De is about sports and above all unity and Indianess. We da people r dividing our own country by states, communities etc. This movie is the right tight slap. Also it emphasises on woman power. As a sportperson(Football) by myself I know this pain of state division and egos and attitude of officials which Ashwin Chaturbedi plays rightly(Shame).People running sports in India never care about da game and facilities. They play with their dirty politics and money game of favorism.I hope CHAK DE bring back some sense to dem so they can actually do something for the games other than cricket.Hockey and football r action packed, short and most popular games in the world.Indian officials kill these games in India, maybe they will come into their sense after seeing this movie Forward | Report abuse

(This is one of the best scenes from Chak De India. Just before the Hockey Final) This seven dialoques enough to make a srk win a best actor trophy

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Chak De! India is a feel-good underdog sports movie featuring girl athletes from India overcoming sexism and some racism to compete and excel. There's a little fighting (the girls get the upper hand), some sexual innuendo, and big plugs for McDonald's and Puma. A sprinkling of strong language doesn't go beyond the "s--t" in subtitles. You don't need to know much about field hockey to enjoy this movie, but you do need to be a fast enough reader to keep up with the subtitles.

What's the story?

Seven years after field hockey star Kabir Kahn (Bollywood heartthrob staple Shah Rukh Khan) is deemed a traitor for his big loss against Pakistan he's given another chance to show his true colors. He's asked to coach the India women's national field hockey team. He has three months to mold players from states all around India into a team ready for the world cup in Australia -- and he's got his work cut out for him. The girls are divided by prejudice and haughtiness and lack any kind of camaraderie. And after Kahn works hard to bring the girls together, the team's funding is cut off. The sexist head of the field hockey club is giving the money to the men's team instead. In a last-ditch effort to get the girls to Australia, Coach Kahn has them play against the men's team to decide their fate.

Is it any good?
It can be hard to get kids to sit through a more typical Bollywood movie. They're very long, usually subtitled, lean toward the melodramatic, and are full of song and dance numbers in a musical style American kids don't hear on the radio. CHAK DE! INDIA is subtitled and a little long, yes, but there are no dance numbers -- the limited soundtrack is more peppy and modern -- and most of the drama takes place on the field. Girls especially will dig into this underdog tale and root for the players facing sexism, family expectations, and other obstacles. It'll remind you of A League of Their Own in many ways. Don't worry if you don't know much about field hockey. It's pretty easy to follow (and the training montages are lengthy enough you can probably put together your own neighborhood team by film's end). Despite the cultural divide, guaranteed you'll be cheering "Chak de India!" (meaning "go for it, India") through the exciting conclusion.

Families can talk about their favorite underdog sports movies and how Chak De! Indiacompares. What do these Indian girls overcome that other athletes don't have to? In the beginning of the movie how does the media turn Coach Kabir Kahn from someone who lost a game for his country into someone who turned traitor? Do we experience media spin to the same extent in the U.S.?
