Conventionally, the contents page is consistent with the brand identity and somewhat mirrors the front page,

as it should have a similar typography, 3 colour scheme and the same feature stories.
Each section of the contents page for the articles is laid out in chronological order according to the headings they are in. Within this there is another heading which is normally the title of the article, with a small subheading to describe the nature of the article usually by using a pun or some sort. Stylistically the magazine company Q, have used the banner to hold the name of the contents page with the brand logo and institutional information such as the date and number of the issue. The title of the contents page is simply named contents as this is more mature and therefore appeals to their target demographic of young adult males. Similarly the typography which is capitalised and bold represents the male demographic as it symbolises masculinity and therefore dominance. The institutional information allows the audience to know they have bought the current issue, and the typography resembles the masthead and therefore relating the information to the brand identity. The pages brand identity is consisted with the Q front page due to the colour scheme of black, red and white being used along with a similar typography to convey to the audience that the contents page is part of the magazine. Main image which usually relates to the cover story on the front page, and is someone who the audience can identify with and has aspirations to be like. The image of the model has been shot as a medium shot at eye level as an extreme close up. This allows the audience to primarily react to the models facial expression which relates to the anchoring to develop the mise en scene and thus the mode of address. The model is using direct mode of address, which means that she is looking directly at the audience and therefore inviting the audience to read her story thus putting the model is a position of dominance hence, subverting the theory of the male gaze. The model is also an aspirational image as she is a well-known artist Adele, therefore the concept known as Maslows hierarchy of needs can be used as the audience will aspire to be like her and gain her success thus believe that if they read her story and buy her magazine that they are buying into a piece of her success.

The image used on a contents page is usually followed by anchoring which develops the mise en scene and the meaning of the image to the audience. This is then followed by a number which corresponds with the page number in which the article is on, and the page number shown with the following heading on the contents page, which helps the audience navigate the page more efficiently.

Within the contents page there may be additional information in the form of an information box which is coded to appear similar to the brand identity of the page, but the content will be different. In this case they have added a music review which uses the same typography and colour scheme as the brand name/identity so that the audience realises that it has been purposefully placed there.
