IintroducedCelesteLantz(Celeste.Lantz@mail.wvu.edu),astudentinourProfessionalWritingandEditing program.She'llbehelpingwithprojectmanagementanddocumentationaswemoveforward.She'salso goingtocreateamoreextensivewebpresencefortheproject.Inparticular,she'llbecontactingyou requestinginformationonyourproject.We'lladdthistotheGoogledocs,sowecanquicklykeepinformed abouttheotherprojects.Inthelongerrun,thiswillserveasthebasicinformationforawebpageontheELO site(seethecurrentlyminimalinformationathttp://eliterature.org/partners/).(CelestewillworkwithLisa Swanstromondevelopingthesematerials.) Werecognizedtheimportanceofbeginningthediscussionofthenameauthority.Withthis,wealso recognizedtheimportanceoftheuniqueIDfield(line10inthespreadsheet).Weagreedweneedaregistry tomaptheprojectspecificIDs.Towardsthisend,wedecidedtocreatea*NameAuthoritySubcommittee*. Similarly,werecognizedtheneedtoexaminetheprojects'taxonomies,andbasedonthismake decisionsaboutthekindoftaxonomicalvocabularywewilluseinthesharedindex.Towardthis,wedecide tocreatea*TaxonomiesSubcommittee*.Bothsubcommitteeswillmeetandreportbacktotheentiregroup. TheTaxonomysubcommitteeagreedthattheactualworkofselectingtaxonomiesand vocabulariesshouldwaituntilthelargergroupcompletesseveraltasks.Primarily,thismeans completingthetaskoftalkingthroughandcomparingmetadatafields (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhHz0pk5eaedGVTOTMzb2Y4S1BhcXQ3YXh QeU1FWEE#gid=0).Asyouwillrecall,wecompletedmostofthisprocessinthelastlargegroup meetingbutranoutoftimewestillhaveseveralfieldstodiscuss.Oncethesefieldsare established,theTaxonomysubcommitteewillseeifthereareexistingtaxonomiesand vocabulariesthatcorrespondtothefields. TheNameAuthoritysubcommitteeagreedthatthistaskcouldproceedwithoutwaitingforthe completionofthesharedmetadata.Thesubcommitteeagreedthatthegoalwouldbean ElectronicLiteraturenameauthority,essentiallyaserverthatwouldincluderecordsforelectronic literatureauthorsorinthecasesofrecordsalreadycontainedinVIAF(http://viaf.org),theserver wouldincludesomesortofpointerorstub.Itwasagreedthatwewoulddeferthedecisiononthe locationoftheserver(i.e.atwhichproject).Wewouldalsodeferdecisionontheexactfieldsin theauthorrecord(i.e.wouldthecompletedrecordsontheserverincludebirthanddeathdates? etc.).Itwasagreedthatthefirststepwouldsimplybetogatherandnormalizeacompilationof namesofallelectronicliteratureauthors.Fromthis,wecoulddiscusswhatotherinformationto include,andwecouldcomparetoseewhatrecordsarealreadycontainedinVIAF.Itwasagreed thattoachievethisend,eachteamwouldsubmittothesharedNameAuthorityGoogleDocs folder (https://drive.google.com/?tab=mo&authuser=0#folders/0B1GTkBRo22_FZGlEQ2VNT2dFSkk)a spreadsheetcontainingthenameinformationfromtheirproject,inthefollowingformat:1)afield withfirst,middleandlastname2)afieldwiththelocalidforthenamefromtheproject3)afield withalinkbacktotherecordontheproject.Oncethesematerialsaregathered,the subcommitteewillmergeandnormalizethem(possiblyusingGoogleRefine)toarriveata standardized,agreeduponlistofnames.
