crew from the 133 AW that diverted to Youngstown/Warren


Regional Airport on 11 Sept 01 following the WTC bombings.
This crew departed Andrews AFB on 11 Sept at 1332Z enroute
to home station. Shortly after take off on a Westerly heading at
about 3500'msl, Washington Center gave them a traffic
advisory. The A/C acquired traffic which was at their
approxmate altitude and identified the traffic as a Boeing 757
or 767. The traffic was in a turn and appeared to maneuver to

avoid the MN ANG C130. The traffic rolled out on a NE heading.
Washington Center called the MN ANG 130 and gave them a
080 heading with a decend to 2000msl and told them to follow
the traffic. The A/C complied. Next the crew saw the traffic
impact the west side of the Pentagon. The A/C called
Washington Center and reported the crash. A/C said his 130
was TCAS equipped and it was operational, TCAS gave no
traffic advisory. The FBI was notifed and they took statements
from the crew.
