Narrative Teachers are given many responsibilities and are faced with making important decisions throughout their profession. They must decide how their students will learn, what tools they will use, and how to measure/assess their learning. They must decide what is ultimately best for each student. It is very helpful for teachers to become familiar with the technology standards for students established by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). With the major technological advancements taking place today, it is vital that all students are equipped with such knowledge to productively live in our ever changing world. Teachers should consider each standard and strive to incorporate them into their lessons and class time. It is essential that they are knowledgeable of the technology they plan for their students to use. It would be meaningless for students to attempt to use a piece of equipment if their teachers are unable to operate it themselves. They are there to show children the appropriate use of technology and how it enhances the learning experience. I believe that these standards prepare students for higher levels of learning by opening their minds to new ideas and encouraging critical thinking. In addition, they gain valuable communication skills by working with other learners. These standards, as well as a public school systems Information and Technology Essential Standards (if available) play a big role in the decision making process of a teacher. If these guidelines we not included in this process, I think it would be hard to determine what resources and technological equipment should be used in the classroom. Teachers would be unsure of what their students should be able to know and do with advanced technology. When setting up a budget such as the one I developed, teachers must refer to these standards. It would be in their best interests to purchase items and resources that meet the technological needs of their students. Avoiding the purchase of unnecessary tools or equipment is also important. As an aspiring teacher, I find the technology standards to be of great importance in every aspect of education. They will allow me to plan lessons around the tools used in the classroom to ensure that my students receive the best education possible.
