Objective of the Survey
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a provider of global assessments and analyses of the food and agricultural situation to the world community. By collecting information on relevant metadata on national food and agricultural statistical systems, the present survey is aimed at supporting efforts of member countries to improve quality and coverage of data. The results of this survey will be useful in designing cooperation programmes and constitute an advocacy tool for national statistical offices.

Guidelines for Completing the Questionnaire


The present questionnaire would ideally be completed by a small working group composed of the Head of the National Statistics Office and the Head of the Agricultural Statistics Office. For the purpose of the present survey the term food and agricultural statistics (or agricultural statistics) is defined to include statistics in the following areas including derived statistics/indicators: Area and production of crops Livestock number and production Trade in agricultural, livestock, fishery, forestry and food products Fisheries statistics Forestry (including non-wood products) statistics Production and consumption of food Agricultural inputs (machinery, seed, feed, fertilizers and pesticides) and cost of production Agricultural / Trade prices Labor force participating in agricultural activities National account statistics relating to agriculture Rural development Rural income
