1.0 INTRODUCTION.

One day when I was in my undergraduate studies I had a discussion with my friends on how height of couples influences the height of their children, it is not really a new concept but there are some percentage of truth on it. Recently I read on one of the webpages about the same Ideas and I was impressed on how it tak place theoretically. So this is a reason why I have choosen this to be in my analysis report. According to that website www.kidsgrowth.com, A child's adult height is influenced by a number of factors, including genetics, sex, and overall health and nutrition. Genetics and the child's gender account for 70% of what goes into deciding how tall a child will be. The other 30% comes from environmental factors, such as nutrition, exercise, and any underlying health problems. There are a number of methods for predicting adult height. One approach is based on the fact that most healthy children will grow to a height that is somewhere between their mother's and father's heights. Using these factors, this method predicts adult height by adding the parents' heights together, dividing by two, then adding three inches for a boy (or subtracting three for a girl). While this method is fairly accurate, the child's ultimate height can vary by as much as five inches above or below this calculation. This method uses online calculator to estimate the heights of children and it takes this form Child's Sex: Mother's Height: Father's Height: Child's Height: Child's Weight: Child's Age:

Probably the most accurate is the technique employed by pediatricians and endocrinologists. Using a reference entitled Radiographic Atlas of Skeletal Development of the Hand and Wrist written by Greulich and Pyle , a reasonable good estimate of a youngster's height at maturity can be made knowing the child's bone age and chronological age.

2.0 DATA COLLECTED For this case I will take consideration of the first method only. The following are sample data taken from three different countries of East Africa (Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya), ten population samples from each country taken from the similar approach.
COUNTRY CHILDREN HEIGHTS (FEETS) AVERAGE PARENTS HEIGHT(FEETS) 60.50 65.2 60.70 65.90 60.87 66.77 61.00 60.80 TANZANIA 61.30 62.00 61.90 64.80 62.70 64.80 63.65 64.50 63.65 64.00 63.90 65.05 63.90 64.90 63.95 64.66 65.00 65.90 65.00 67.88 UGANDA 66.70 65.00 67.00 69.90 67.10 66.90 68.90 66.40 70.30 70.90 70.95 72.50 69.90 68.99 70.70 70.10 72.00 73.10 72.70 73.20 KENYA 73.77 72.30 74.80 75.66 75.00 75.80 75.20 75.50 77.10 77.68 77.60 77.50

I signed in and uploaded the data in the Many Eyes tool and try to make analysis with visualizations, the uploaded data appear in the data sets with the contributor name, existing visualisations and title INFLUENCE OF PARENTS HEIGHTS TO THEIR CHILDREN.

3.0 VISUALIZATIONS With scatter plotter the pattern of the children to parents heights shows there is a positive linear relationship with an estimate of up to 0.88 of the coefficient of correlation, this shows that there is close relationship between the childrens heights as compared to their parents heights. See the pattern below:

With Line graph, Histogram and Pie Chart the data shows that the heights of children in the three countries differs as well. Childrens heights and parents heights from Tanzania are shorter as compared to their counter parts in Uganda and Kenya also that Kenyans are toller than both Tanzania and Uganda. See the Line Graph visualization:

The Pie Chart visualization:

4.0 CONCLUSION: Generally there is a close relationship between the parents heights and the heights of their children and it is true we have many exaples in real life situations, but the methods to get the accurate heights may differ depending on approach. It is not true that all faamilies have an average of up to 62 feets in East african countires, some are shorter than this height, Again it is very difficult to comfirm directly on shortness of parents and children between the countries, because in all the three countries there are families with high heights and if I was to consider a sample from such families, on average I would come up with a diferent conclusion. Recall this man from Tanzania Hasheem Thabeet who is playing NBA in America, we also have guys like Daniel Stiven an officer from University of Dar es salaam and many others. So the simple analysis cann be destorted by the sample size and the data it self. Most important to me was to understand the use of Data analysis tools because these tools assist academicians, reserchers, Managers and Analysts to make analysis and hence reach better conclusions on their analysis. Some of the analysis tools includes just to mension the few: Zoho reports Bime MicroStrategy Good Data Pentaho Business Intelligence Development Studio Google analysis and Many Eyes it self
