Week 1 of 2
Notes

Field trip: Nevada State Museum - learn about the history of Native Americans in our area. The students will be introduced to Nevadas early history by exploring the museum and working in groups to answer worksheet questions. Students will have a special guest speaker in class tomorrow who will explain his heritage and culture of his ancestry. Students will create questions to discuss during a question and answer period at the end of the presentation. They will also learn vocabulary words that relate to this unit. Today we will have a Nevada Native American from the Washoe Tribe as a guest speaker in the class. We will learn about Native culture, lifestyle, and attributes of his ancestry.

MONDAY week #1

H1.5.1 Identify and describe Native North American life and cultural regions prior to European contact.

Dont forget all the paper work for field trip. Set up lunches with cafeteria.

Call and confirm chaperons. H1.5.2 Identify and describe the attributes of Native American nations Make 10 copies of Museum in the local region and North America. worksheet for end of lesson plan, one for each group. H1.5.3 Discuss the interactions of early Clipboard and pencils for explorers with native cultures. each group.

TUESDAY week #1

H1.5.1 Identify and describe Native North American life and cultural regions prior to European contact.

H1.5.2 Identify and describe the attributes of Native American nations Make vocabulary word and in the local region and North America. definition cards. H1.5.3 Discuss the interactions of early explorers with native cultures.

Make copies of vocabulary worksheet (25 copies) at end of lesson plan.

WEDNESDAY week #1

H1.5.1 Identify and describe Native North American life and cultural regions prior to European contact.

H1.5.2 Identify and describe the attributes of Native American nations in the local region and North America. Hand out students questions from yesterday. H1.5.3 Discuss the interactions of early explorers with native cultures.

Make 25 copies of the ticket out the door at end of lesson plan.

Notes

Today we will review and discuss what the guest speaker said about the Washoe Tribe. Also, the students will choose what type of project they would like to do and what their project will focus on such as the culture, lifestyle, beliefs, ancestry, and foods. Today the students will read important information that they might use on their projects. They will also create a cheat sheet on the importance of the Washoe tribe as well as incorporating some of the frequently used vocabulary words of the week.

THURSDAY week #1

Make 25 copies of article: The Washoe People Past and Present (pg. 5-8) see end H1.5.2 Identify and describe the attributes of Native American nations of lesson plan. in the local region and North America. Make 25 copies of Quiz at H1.5.3 Discuss the interactions of early end of lesson plan. explorers with native cultures.

FRIDAY week #1

The students will play Jeopardy to enhance their learning and to test their knowledge. This way the students will review and pick up on things they may have missed during the lessons.

Make sure the Jeopardy game is up and running for today lesson. Set up Smart board and projector.

They will talk about their chosen research and share interesting facts about the Washoe tribe. Afterward, they will create a worksheet of their own with questions that relate to the Washoe Tribe.
