1 Empathy Class Profile 1 Empathy is a year 1 class of 20 students. There are 8 boys and 12 girls.

. The majority of the class come from non-English speaking backgrounds with Arabic being the most common language spoken.

Student specific information Sibel Sibel is a keen reader and also loves writing (particularly factual texts). She is reading a level 6 and struggles to integrate reading strategies, tending to always fall back on one main strategy. She is very personable and gets along well with her classmates. She is polite and respectful and frequently accepts responsibility. Sibel has some difficulties with her articulation. Tarek Tarek is a keen reader and also loves writing although he lacks confidence in these areas. He was in car accident when he was younger and now has some difficulty remembering and recalling facts. He is very well liked by his classmates and interacts appropriately with others. He is polite and respectful and frequently accepts responsibility. Tarek really enjoys constructing things Emily Emily has diagnosed difficulties with speech. She has a mild delay in expressive language and a severe delay in receptive language. She accesses speech therapy outside of school every Wednesday morning. Her older sister largely supports Emily at home. She has a positive attitude towards learning and although her sister has mentioned that Emily gets very frustrated at home, Ive not seen it at school. She has be referred to the learning support team. Nari

Sibel is a keen reader and has a great attitude towards learning. She has the potential to be a little cheeky but with clear expectations and positive encouragement Nari has really settled down. She is very energetic and loves to participate in role playing/drama based activities. She gets on well with her peers. Nari has some difficulties with expressive language and is being monitored. Midori Midori has many personal issues affecting her life at the moment. Her parents have recently split up and Dad is now the main caregiver. The family have been referred to the school counsellor. Midori is accessing Reading Recovery and is doing well. She had a lot of time off school last year but her attendance has improved in 2013. Midori loves to act and participate in role-playing activities. She is very confident and has a keen sense of humour. Adnan Adnan is a very quiet student. He is a hard worker but lacks the confidence to ask for help. He is a struggling reader who was tested for reading recovery but fell just outside the requirements. His reading is being closely monitored and prioritised. Adnan loves constructing and making things with others. Socially he has some difficulty making friends and plays with his older brother a lot. Isra Isra is a bright personality in the classroom. She relates well to others, is kind and caring and has a positive attitude towards most things. She is accessing reading recovery with Deb Lloyd and is making fast improvements. She seems to really listen and picks up new skills easily. Isra is a very responsible student and is always keen to help out others. Isra enjoys creative arts and is also a keen writer. She would do well in public speaking. Ali Ali is a quiet and shy student. He often seeks reassurance from the teacher when completing tasks. Ali is reading below the expected level currently and needs to focus on his sight word knowledge. He enjoys reading quietly to himself. He relates well to his peers and is very friendly. His strengths lie in Mathematics. Jasmina Jasmina is wonderful at decoding a tricky text. She is able to read at quite a high level although her fluency needs a lot of work. She is consistently well behaved and although she seems quiet, she has quite a bubbly personality. Jasmina loves creative arts and will work independently on tasks for extended periods of time. She has a small group of friends that she plays with. At times she can be a bit sensitive when faced with an unfriendly situation. Amar Amar is a keen reader and writer and this is where her strengths lie. She often races ahead and needs to slow down and listen to teacher instructions. Amar can display outstanding behaviour but often gets herself into trouble by being the teacher and telling others what to do. At times she has difficulty relating to others as she can come across as a bit bossy. Amar loves drawing and creating pictures. Emynah Emynah has strengths in writing. She loves to write and often writes about interesting things and uses adjectives to make her writing more appealing. She is also doing well in Mathematics, particularly in number concepts. She has a happy disposition and relates well to her peers. Emynah has a lot of support from home. She often expresses an interest in physical activity and sets goals for her to work on in the playground. Charlie Charlie has a very laidback personality. He is very easy going and tends not to push himself in academic tasks. He is often extremely tired and this has been discussed with his mother during parent interviews. Charlie wakes up in the middle of the night when his father comes home from work. We are working together, towards building better home routines for Charlie. He is stronger in Mathematics than literacy and can aim to build his sight word knowledge and handwriting.

Maher Maher has a bubbly personality. He has some difficulty with speech and often uses a very loud voice in general conversation. Maher is accessing Reading Recovery with Deb Lloyd and has making fast improvements. He has significant support from home (his mother is training to be a teachers aide). Mahers behaviour can be difficult at times due to his energy levels but is easily redirected. Aya Aya is repeating Year 1 this year due to an extended trip to Lebanon last year. She is accessing reading recovery with Fiona Pullar and is making slow progress. She struggles with Vocabulary. She is beginning to write more independently but relies heavily on assistance from others. Aya has been in a little bit of trouble in term 1, doing silly things to make others laugh. She loves being creative. Ritisha Ritisha is a keen reader and writer and this is where her strengths lie. She often races ahead and needs to slow down and listen to teacher instructions. Ritisha can display outstanding behaviour but often gets herself into trouble by being the teacher and telling others what to do. At times she has difficulty relating to others as she can come across as a bit bossy. Ritisha loves drawing and creating pictures and can spend extended periods of time doing these independently. Serene Serene is generally doing well across all areas. She is a quiet achiever and lacks confidence to speak up in class or to others in the playground. She has a small group of friends and seems to enjoy school. We are working on her speaking skills, as it is often very hard to hear her. Serene grasps mathematical concepts quickly and is a very independent worker. Kailyb Kailyb is generally a quiet student with a happy disposition. He is reading bellow the expected level and struggles to recall sight words. In Mathematics he is grasping most concepts easily. Kailyb enjoys doing puzzles and solving problems with others. He enjoys reading quietly to himself from his book box. Kailyb has a small group of friends and often still plays with his family members in the playground. Glenn Glenn is generally doing well across all areas. He is a quiet achiever and lacks confidence to speak up in class or to others in the playground. He has a small group of friends and seems to enjoy school. He has strengths in mathematical and grasps concepts quickly. He is a very independent worker. Glenn enjoys construction activities with others. Kristian Kristian is a very perceptive and personable child. He relates well to all students and teachers and is genuinely caring. He is very responsible and has a great understanding of class and school routines. He reads at a high level and has sound comprehension skills. Kristian can be a bit sensitive at times when he feels he has done the wrong thing. His strengths are in Literacy (particularly reading). He is very confident and loves role-playing activities. Zayneb Zayneb was new to our class part way through term 1. She spent about 6 weeks in Malaysia at the end of last year. She is working below most of the students in 1 Empathy. Zayneb can display quite a stubborn personality that stops her from achieving targets. She often expresses her dislike of work and wants to play and do art all the time. She has more ability than she shows in class. Her Father has told me that her Mum is the person to contact in regards educational matters.
