We welcome proposals for independently-funded projects that directly respond to the theme of Close, Closer. These ideas from exhibitions to talks and one-off events will form the fringe events of the 2013 Lisbon Architecture Triennale. The overall theme of plurality in spatial practice can be interpreted and appropriated in many ways and we look forward to seeing reactions and ideas for collateral projects and events from all over the world. 1. General Information 1.1 Organizer and scope of the invitation The third Lisbon Architecture Triennale welcomes proposals for independently funded projects that respond directly to the theme Close, Closer. These ideas from exhibitions to talks and one-off events will form the fringe events of the 2013 edition and will be publicised and supported in our printed and digital materials. The overall theme of plurality in spatial practice can be interpreted and appropriated in many ways and we look forward to seeing reactions and ideas for collateral projects and events from all over the world. By presenting relevant yet independently conceived and developed projects, the Triennale embraces the wide variety of creative and artistic disciplines which can enrich the scope of architectural practice and reflection with their contributions, stimulus and questioning. This will add resonance to the Triennales programme while affording its audience an even wider cultural and creative panorama. By the same token and by engaging the vast universe of spatial practice, the participants and authors of Associated Projects will tap into the wealth of creative resources, information, ideas and issues based on which contemporary architecture is shaped. At the same time, it will give Associated Projects exposure to key audiences and influencers within a well-established international event. Associated Projects will be referenced in the Triennales communication campaign and promotion/press materials, thus benefitting from its across-the-board impact. The Triennale is happy to act as a visibility platform and interface between audiences, actors and content, fostering awareness, interest and insight. 1.2 Selection Process The selection for Associated Projects will be made by the chief curator Beatrice Galilee and curatorial team, Liam Young, Mariana Pestana and Jos Esparza, at four to six week intervals. The entries will be decided upon based on their feasibility and engagement with the overall theme. Technical Information 2.1 Budget All projects must be self-funded. 2.2 Location Location of the project must exist and be geographically identified with a Google Maps reference. The associated project does not have to be in Lisbon. 2.3 Entry fee There is no entry fee for this competition. 2.4 Language English

3. Guidelines for submission 3.1 Submission of Proposals The proposals for associated projects can be emailed directly to the curatorial team in PDF format (no more than 6MB): associatedprojects@trienaldelisboa.com, from 17 September 2012. 3.2 Required documents 3.2.1 The following information must be stated in a PDF file: Name (Include all Members of the Team) Date of Birth Nationality Language Brief bio (not exceeding 200 words) Address Post Code Country Telephone Email (Primary Contact) Project Title Date Project Address Name of Location Manager Contact Email Project Description (not exceeding 500 words) 3.2.2 Photographs, drawings, diagrams, renderings, collages or other visualisations that illustrate the ideas and reactions towards the theme and specify the nature of the associated project, in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, no larger than 6MB. Saved in RGB colour format. One file per submission. (Digital Submission) 3.2.3 A document proving the participant's ability to host the event, issued by the location management, event sponsor/funder or an independent referee (institutional, academic or other). 3.3 Restrictions The following may not enter this competition: - Participants who are related to any member of the Jury; 3.4 Communication & Press Requirements 3.4.1 All proposals selected must reference the Lisbon Architecture Triennale in their press and promotional materials, as well as their status as Associate Projects. 3.4.2 Participants must submit at least 3 (three) high-resolution images (photographs, drawings, diagrams, renderings, collages or other visualisations that illustrate the project) as well as a final project description (not exceeding 500 words) and full credits/colophon, for communication purposes, no later than 6 May 2013. 3.5 Changes to proposal 3.5.1 Any changes made to the submitted and selected proposals, whether of a conceptual (media, content, participants, represented creatives or disciplinary fields) or logistical (venue, dates, duration) nature, must be communicated to the Triennales curatorial team. 3.5.2 The Triennales curatorial team has the right to exclude any project should changes to the original submitted proposal be deemed to have compromised the pertinence of the projects presentation within the scope of Close, Closer.

Only the selected projects will be contact by email. Please note that the projects must take place between 12 September and 15 December 2013.
