Leadership Leadership is a process by which one influences behavior of others in order to achieve desired objective.

Following elements must be present in leadership: It is a process of influence The influence is for achievement of goals There must be two or more persons present whose behavior is to be influenced The influence is to get willing cooperation and not forceful cooperation

The behavior of the employees can be changed by giving them logical reasons, by being supportive and friendly with them, by bringing cohesion in the group, by using support of seniors and using authority in order to influence behavior of employees, etc. Generally leaders and managers are considered similar but two terms are not synonymous. It is mainly because a manager has a formal authority and is the leader by position but a leader is person who influences the behavior of others through his qualities. A good leader helps in inspiring and guiding the employees. He has a direct contact with the employees and he motivates them in order to achieve group goals. He secures cooperation of the members of the organization as they develop feeling of initiative and enthusiasm. He also tries to recognize hidden talents of employees to encourage them and boost up their confidence level. He makes effective and efficient utilization of resources of the organization and increases the productivity as well. He creates a positive and friendly working environment for the employees thus bringing job satisfaction to the employees. A good leader must be physically fit and attractive. Healthy and smart leader can himself work and induce others to work as well. He must possess knowledge, intelligence and skill in almost all the fields. He must be honest as well. A leader can develop confidence in his subordinates only if he has confidence in himself. Therefore there should be self confidence and sense of responsibility. He must also take initiatives in order to grab opportunities. He should know all the motivational theories so that he knows what factor of motivation is to be used in what situation. He must possess the communication skills so that he can pass on the information and instructions to the subordinates. What makes a leader? Charisma, a personal attractiveness that allows one to influence others Dedication to values and goals Knowledge of related subjects and general wisdom Humbleness and altruism The general ability to inspire, this is a combination of all of these characteristics How do these traits apply to my role model? Charisma: without you really cant be a successful leader, sure you may get the job done but how willing will people be to follow you in your pursuit?

 With his charisma, my role model has gathered a following around the world for his endeavors. He is both a spiritual and political leader, and his charisma has helped to enlighten people to his cause. Dedication to values and goals: to be satisfied with your life you must uphold your values, if you have strong values and you stick to them, you can live without regret. My models values are Peace, Respect, and Non-violence. Everything that he does must first check to these values. For this, he has an incorruptible persona. Knowledge of what you are working with, and general wisdom: if you dont know about what tasks you have do, how can you do the effectively? With general wisdom, you can help yourself and others through life. My role model has earned nearly 30 doctoral degrees from schools around the world in subjects varying from law to theology. He was also awarded the Nobel Prize for peace in 1989. Humbleness: if you are humble and altruistic it is hard for people not to like you, and even harder for them to try and dislike you. My role model is as humble as they come. He never claims to be more than he is, and everyone is equal to him. General ability to inspire: separately each of the characteristics does not necessarily make someone a good leader, but if you can utilize all of them together, your ability to lead, and peoples willingness to follow you, soars.
