Grade Level (s)/Subject Area(s) Music/Band 9-12 Instructions to the teacher candidate: Please reflect on your professional performance, and respond to each of the following prompts. 1. In terms of the ADEPT Performance Standards, what are your professional strengths? How have you built on these strengths so far, and how do you plan to do so in the future?

I think that one of my professional strengths is that I plan my lesson based upon the level of the students in that class. In the classroom, various students are on different levels. I plan instruction based upon approximately how many students are in the majority. When planning my instruction I make sure that my lesson is understandable, simplistic, and interesting. For the future I plan to add more hands on activities in my music classes. I currently have been looking for games to use during instructional time.

In terms of the ADEPT Performance Standards, what are your professional challenges? How do you plan to meet these challenges?

I think my professional challenge is trying to get all the students to participate in all of the activities, Also to get the students to participate more in class. Student involvement seems to be difficult. Maybe by planning more activities that interest them would get them involved even the more. 3. Describe your students overall progress and achievement. What insights have you gained into ways to improve student progress and achievement?

Overall, I think my students have grown tremendously. I think the most valuable and most obvious progress is my Music and Its Role class or Music Appreciation. This class generally knows nothing about music. After just a few weeks, they have learned a lot about instruments, musical notation, and ensembles. Some activities that I had them doing really proved they paid attention, and understood the material. I gave informal assessments as well as formal assessments and on each they have scored well. 4. How will you use the knowledge you have gained through this professional selfassessment to promote your continuous professional growth and collaboration?

I will take the ideas, strategies, and activities that have worked and incorporate them in to the lessons st of my own classrooms. I also will talk with other professionals and 1 year teachers to exchange stories and see what has worked for then and what has not. I have gained a good amount from this experience I will take this to the next level of learning.
