Luck and misfortune. Mystic powers, unproved physics phenomenon or creations of human imagination?

Theory of Luck Relativity

Opening word from the Author:

Hello. I would like to start with a request. Im humbly asking for forbearance due to topic I took up here is fairly a theoretical analysis of the phenomenon called LUCK. The aim of the study below, on which I work for years now, is to show my observations and thoughts about what is luck and what influence it have on our daily lives, if it influence them at all.

INTRODUCTION

Let us start with easy, at least on the first sight, question. How one define Luck? Probably most of you think of Luck as unexplainable phenomenon occurring in unexpected situations, against our expectations but in our favor. Others, more skeptic people, say that Luck intrinsically dont exist, and is human creation, a mare try to explain the results of chain of coincidences. Yet others ascertain that its magic, mystic force which can be controlled one way or another. (But we all know that things containing mystic are the worst) For those of you who never dug deep into the topic of good and bad luck those three theses are different as day and night. Nothing more erroneous. My study acknowledge all those three theses as truthful.

Dear Reader. Before you proceed further, I recommend you to read my other short study: Perspectivism, or how point of view changes the face of truth.

THESIS
Lets get down to main course then , and formulate my thesis answering those three questions: What is Luck? Does Luck even exist? How far does Lucks influence reach?

I think Luck, either good or bad, is a relative term describing positive or negative effects of uncontrolled chains of events, noted differently depending on the perspective and the overall knowledge of the observer.

My task now is to show you around demesne of my mind and let you fully understand what I want to convey in this work.

GOOD & BAD LUCK

Welcome to the first room. The existence of Luck. First, let me explain to you what I understand by the term Luck. Good and Bad Luck by themselves are simply a nouns assigned to general expression of particular type of results of concrete events set. During years of my observations I was a witness of many different occurrences of Luck, both Good and Bad, to a greater or a lesser extent. However, in almost every of those situations the term Luck was said on the spur of the moment without any analysis of the situation. Lets use the particular, imaginary example. Imagine that your alarm clock busted and thus you were late to school, work or in other place important at that moment in time. In our example we will use being late to work. From your, Id say limited mainly by stress caused by consequences of you being late to work, point of view you had bad luck this morning, because the alarm clock didnt rang. However was it really Bad Luck? Could the fact of alarm clock not ringing have positive effects? If yes, why do YOU consider it as Bad Luck then? And if you assume that there is no Luck, how would you call that type of situation? Fate? Jinx? Karma? Coincidence? Stupidity, because you simply forgot to set the clock or change the batteries on time? Everyone have free will to chose what is this particular situation for him, how to call it and how to deal with it in the future. For me its a direct effect of chain of actions and reactions which started long before this situation. This is how we enter the next room in my mind-mansion.

PERSPECTIVE & RELATIVITY

Considering only direct causes and effects of this particular situation (were still using being late to work example here) qualifying it as Good or Bad Luck event is incomplete and highly objective. For you, in the moment of waking up too late and quick deduction Oh no! The alarm clock busted! I overslept! I will be late to work! My salary will be cut in half or even worse, I will get fired!!, this situation looks badly. To tell you the truth, most if not all of the people would consider this situation as unlucky one. Nevertheless, as I mentioned earlier, due to stress caused by your incomplete deduction and sole predictions, you limited yourself to only one or two or at most three possible future scenarios. Namely cut salary or being fired. Unfortunately, its not a single event that affect the fact of being late to work but whole sentence of events directly and indirectly connected to the one you focus all your attention on. Anyway, lets just create some exemplary data of that morning and look at it from different perspective. Lets say your alarm clock worked perfectly. You woke up at 6:30, you have plenty of time to eat breakfast, prepare to work, watch and read some news and do other usually ignored by your conscious every morning events. Next, at 7:45 you go to work. Theoretically without any traffic jam youd arrive at 8:10, at 8:50 with the traffic. So you drive lightly, not too fast, because your day started well as all the other good days. But someone else had bad morning, rushing with death defying speed with no minding to obey the signs nor traffic lights. BOOM! Multiple crash, in which you take part. Now its 10:20, your car is done for and youre so late for work that its pointless to even show up.

Its just hypothetic option of that Good morning. However the alarm clock didnt woke you up, its 8:00 and you just get up. You eat in a hurry and panic, simultaneously with preparing for work and watching news. Then you hear about the huge car accident on your usual route to work. You drive nervously but not to meet your maker, still having the images of the massacre on road next to your favorite shop. Its 9:30, youre late half an hour. The boss is not there yet. After around an hour you receive the phone call. It was the boss who caused that gigantic crash this morning and you were appointed as his substitute until he returns. Bad morning turns out to be another Lucky day of your life. Of course those are just two concrete scenarios, their sole purpose is to only show you that what you think is Luck at the time might cause the situation extremely opposite to Lucky. It can occur the same day, the next day, next week, next month, next year, next decade. Single Good Luck or Bad Luck event have an impact on every future event, and all are objectively relative depending on the perspective.

CONCLUSION
And so, the report above should give you an idea that term Luck, at least in my eyes, depends on many perspectively differing one from another causes and effects. I only hope that after you read this you wont state thoughtlessly what something is lucky or not, and think for a second how can this bad luck be used for your benefit and turned around in your favor and how to cherish good luck so it wouldnt be brainlessly wasted.
