This saying seems to be a good description of my work as vice principal. Today I was a reading teacher, test proctor, custodian, secretary, and librarian. On other days I fill in as classroom or specialty teacher as necessary, and I always have lots of emails and paperwork to deal with in the office. My most stretching experience to-date involved planning and leading our annual Sports Day. My previous Sports Day experience was limited to shouting Go left, Go left! at my Obstacle Course posting, so I learned a lot as I sorted through the logistics and marshaled the races. Thankfully, the weather was beautiful and the day was enjoyable. We had trouble choosing the winners of the Good Sportsmanship Award because our students were all such good sports!
Were just finishing up our first term of school. My next challenge will be being the sole administrator at the Primary Campus for the second term of school. I am thankful for the time Ive had learning and working with the current principal and covet your prayers for wisdom as I enter my solo phase. Please also pray that my fellow administrator, who is on furlough, will be able to return as planned in January!
Students appreciated the fact that the schools shoe policy was relaxed for Sports Day.
Celebrations
We recently celebrated a years worth of translation milestones in PNG:
Thanksgiving
I know that the holiday is still a few months off, but I have trouble keeping track of seasons here in the tropics and, anyway, its never a bad idea to count blessings. These are some of the things that I am currently most thankful for:
My PNG family. Wendy works with me at school and recently survived a severe bout off appendicitisnot a good illness to have in a country with limited healthcare. They are my was famili or watch family and look out for me. A lovely home that includes a dog who doesnt mind posing and a blender that makes amazing breakfast smoothies.
Provision for a summer trip to Germany during which I enjoyed sightseeing, familiar looking landscapes, spending time with both
old and new friends, and lots of studying. I am now 1/3 of the way through my Masters program in School Leadership!
