ANOPENLETTERFROMTEXASA&MSTUDENTBODYPRESIDENT,JOHNL.CLAYBROOK Howdy, Aftermuchresearchanddeliberation,IhaveconfidentlydecidedtovetoS.B.6570,TheReligious FundingExemptionbill.Evenwithoutthewordingthatspecifiedparticulargroupsthatwouldbe affectedinthefinalversionofthisbill,thesentimenttowardsthebillhasnotchangedandhascaused greatharmtoourreputationasastudentbodyandtothestudentsfeelingdisenfranchisedbythisbill. Oneofthemajorargumentsusedinthepassageofthisbillhasbeenbroughtintoquestion.Tomake mattersclear,thereiscurrentlynooptionforstudentstooptoutofpayingfees.Rather,inactuality, thereisaStudentFiscalAppealProcess,whichwillconsiderappealsinvolvingissuesrelatedtothe applicationofUniversityStudentFiscalPolicy. ThemainpremiseofS.B.6570istosupportthecurrentstandingprocessofallowingstudentswho object,forreligiousandmoralpurposes,totheuseoftheirstudentfeesandtuition(and)tooptoutof payinganamountequaltotheirshareoftheservicefundingfromtheirfeeandtuitionmoney.Sinceno suchcurrentstandingprocessexistsasisdescribedinthebill,S.B.6570servesnopurpose.However, whatthisbillrepresentsstillremainsandmustbedoneawaywith.
