It is your responsibility to check. SECTIONS: Sections provide an important and valuable opportunity to discuss assigned problems, other problems, points that were not clear in lecture or in your readings, and questions arising before or after an exam. Note that office hours should not replace your attendance of section, but should rather be used as a supplement when needed. You are welcome to attend any section (not necessarily just the one you are enrolled in) and even to attend more than one section every week. SECTIONS - SCHEDULE: A01 - Mon. 3:00-3:50pm, CENTR 222 A02 - Mon. 4:00-4:50pm, CENTR 222 A03 - Wed. 6:00-6:50pm, WLH 2207 HOMEWORK: Problem sets will be due each FRIDAY in class. They will be posted at least one week before the due date. Check the web for new assignments. Solutions to the homework problems will be posted on the course web site right after the homework is due. LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. You are welcome to work on problem sets together, and to ask about problems in Section or office hours. However, office hours are not meant as a substitute for Section discussions. Also, you are not welcome to simply copy someone else's solutions or solutions found in manuals. This will not help you in any significant way at exam time; it will only cramp your hand to do all that writing without much purpose. Note that homework material will often be ahead of lecture. This is inevitable if homework is not to be way behind lecture and reading material. This is a reminder that in addition to attending lectures and section, you should be reading the textbook, and that you will often find yourself reading material before you hear it in lecture. This will also contribute to your better understanding of the lectures and will help you to be more knowledgeably prepared with questions. EXAMS: There will be a midterm, on Wednesday, February 8, 8:00-9.50 pm, location: YORK 2622. As the time approaches, I will let you know what will be covered on the midterm. The final exam will be on Wednesday, March 21, 8:00-11:00 am, location TBA. Again, I will let you know what will be covered on the final as the time approaches. You are allowed to bring to each exam one 8 x 11 sheet of paper on which you can write anything you like (both sides). You may also bring a calculator. NOT a memory bank, just a calculator. See statement about CHEATING below - bringing information to the exam on a calculator or any other electronic device constitutes cheating. The calculator is only to be used for arithmetic and other explicitly allowed computational operations. I am often asked whether lectures or reading or homework is more important for

exam performance. My exams may contain portions that are closely connected to homework, some closely connected to the examples in the book, and some that come from lecture and reading. In other words, it is all important! EXAM SCHEDULE AND GRADE BREAKDOWN: MIDTERM: 35% - Wednesday, February 8, 8:00-9.50 pm, location: YORK 2622 FINAL: 55% - Wednesday, March 21, 8:00-11:00 am, location TBA HOMEWORKS: 10 % EXAM REGRADING: Exams will be available for viewing and/or pickup at pre-announced times in my office. If you have any doubts about the grading, discuss them with me. If you don't have time just then, or are not sure, leave the exam in my office and come back another time. ONCE YOU TAKE THE EXAM WITH YOU, THERE WILL BE NO REGRADING. NO EXCEPTIONS. MISSED EXAMS: Missed exams (for very good and properly justified reason only!) must be made up before the scheduled date of the exam. Serious unanticipated emergencies will be handled on a case-by-case basis. HONESTY: DO NOT CHEAT.
