In the name of the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, Amen. Brothers and Sisters, I have good news! Christ is risenand all Gods people say, He is risen indeed! Its Easter!Today we celebrate that life overcame death that somehow a man brutally killed and placed in a dark and covered tomb came back to life. Today we celebrate that life, rather than death,has the last word in Gods world. Its good news, but if you are like me, the resurrection is a little problematic. Were talking about a dead person coming back to life. Were talking about a corpse thats been decomposing for three days - somehow standing up, unwrapping itself, carefully folding the linens, walking out of a tomb, finding a gardener,borrowing his clothes, going to find Mary, and freaking her out. Jesus literally came back from the dead. And for many, myself included at times, the whole situation it just a little hard to swallow. It doesnt make senseeven though Jesus told us hed do it! Its out of the realm of what we know to be true: once you are dead, you are deadright? The resurrection of the dead is hard enough to swallowand Im a believer! Its that much more difficult to have logical conversations with people who dont buy the empty tomb theory. These conversationsare difficult because the resurrection goes against all logicagainst the common knowledge that life leads to death. We are left trying toprove that, somehow, Jesus came back from the dead. But I cant prove it. You cant prove it. We didnt see it happen, but then again, neither did Mary, or Simon Peter, or the Beloved Disciple. None of us saw it. We simply believe that it happened.

The resurrection is the one event in Jesus life that happens only between Him and God. And there is freedom in that. After all, we are not, nor have we ever been, called to prove the resurrection. We are not called to explain the mystery that is our faithwe are called to live it out. Just like Mary lived it out. Just like Simon Peter and the Beloved Disciple lived it out. Just like Jesus lived it out. Many people have said that Easter didnt begin when Mary and her friends found an open tomb rather, Easter is said to havebegun the moment when Jesus speaks to Mary, and she believes. Mary believes. The beloved disciple believes. Simon Peter believes. We believe. And it is at this moment when conversations with people who dont buy the empty tomb theory become so much easier. The mysterious event in the tomb was between Jesus and God. We cant logically prove thatbut what happened between Jesus and Mary we can certainly relate to that, at the very least we can certainly share with others how We, in Marys words, have seen the Lord!We can share how Christ lives in our liveshow our living God has spoken our nameshow our living God has been with us along the wayhow our living God has given us new life. This might not prove much of anything, but it is what God asks of us. The resurrection might be hard to believe. But one look at any one of our lives and we know, just like Mary, Simon Peter, and the Beloved Disciple, that Christ lives. Christ lives! It might be hard to believe, but its true, because weve seen the living Christ present in our lives. And thanks be toGodforthat. Amen.

Hermanos y hermanas, tengo buenas noticias! Cristo ha resucitado... y lo dice todo el pueblo de Dios: "l ha resucitado!" Es Pascua! Hoy celebramos que la vida venci a la muerte... que de alguna manera un hombre brutalmente asesinado y colocado en una tumba cubierta y oscura... volvi a la vida. Hoy celebramos que la vida, en lugar de la muerte, tiene la ltima palabra en el mundo de Dios. Es una buena nueva, pero si usted es como yo, la resurreccin es un poco problemtica. Estamos hablando de un muerto que vuelve a la vida. Estamos hablando de un cadver que ha estado en descomposicin durante tres das - de alguna manera ponerse de pie, desenvolvindose a s mismo, doblando cuidadosamente la ropa de la cama, saliendo de una tumba, buscando a un jardinero, tomando prestada la ropa, encontrando a Mara, y asustndola al salir. Jess literalmente regres de entre los muertos. Y para muchos, incluido yo mismo, a veces, toda la situacin es un poco difcil de tragar. No tiene sentido... a pesar de que Jess nos dijo que lo hara! Est fuera del mbito de lo que sabemos que es verdad: una vez que ests muerto, ests muerto... verdad? La resurreccin de los muertos es bastante difcil de tragar... y yo soy un creyente! Es mucho ms difcil tener conversaciones lgicas con las personas que no compran la teora de la tumba vaca. Estas conversaciones son difciles debido a que la resurreccin va en contra de toda lgica... contra el conocimiento comn que la vida lleva a la muerte. Nos quedamos tratando de demostrar que, de alguna manera, Jess volvi de entre los muertos. Pero no puedo probarlo. Ustedes no pueden probarlo. No llegamos a ver lo que sucedi, pero, de nuevo, tampoco lo hizo Mara, o Simn Pedro, o el Discpulo Amado. Ninguno de nosotros lo vimos. Simplemente creemos que sucedi.

La resurreccin es el nico evento en la vida de Jess que slo ocurre entre l y Dios. Y all est la libertad en eso. Despus de todo, no somos ni hemos sido nunca, llamados a demostrar la resurreccin. No estamos llamados a explicar el misterio que es nuestra fe... estamos llamados a vivirlo. Al igual que Mara lo vivi. Al igual que Simn Pedro y el discpulo amado lo vivieron. Al igual que Jess lo vivi. Muchas personas han dicho que la Pascua no comenz cuando Mara y sus amigos encontraron una tumba abierta... ms bien, la Pascua se dice que ha comenzado en el momento en que Jess habla a Mara, y ellacree. Mara cree. El discpulo amado cree. Simn Pedro cree. Nosotros Creemos. Y es en este momento en conversaciones con personas que no compran la teora de la tumba vaca llega a ser mucho ms fcil. El evento misterioso en el sepulcro fue entre Jess y Dios. Nosotros, lgicamente, no podemos probar eso... pero lo que sucedi entre Jess y Mara... que sin duda podemos relacionarlo con eso, por lo menos... sin duda podemos compartir con otros cmo "Nosotros", en palabras de Mara: "He visto al Seor!" Podemos compartir cmo Cristo vive en nuestras vidas... como nuestro Dios vivo ha dicho nuestros nombres...cmo nuestro Dios vivo ha estado con nosotros a lo largo del camino... como nuestro Dios vivo nos ha dado nueva vida. Esto podra no probar mucho de nada, pero es lo que Dios nos pide. La resurreccin podra ser difcil de creer. Pero una mirada a cualquiera de nuestras vidas y sabemos, al igual que Mara, Pedro Simn, y el Discpulo Amado, que Cristo vive. Cristo vive! Puede ser difcil de creer, pero es verdad, porque hemos visto a Cristo vivo presente en nuestras vidas. Y gracias a Dios por eso. Amen.
