Dacorie Smith Sentence Outline Topic: Social Media- the end of individual privacy or new era in interpersonal relationship.

Narrow topic: Social Media; the end of individual Privacy. Purpose: To convince the audience that Social Media spells the end of individual privacy in our society. Thesis: The complexity behind a social media application have led to poor infrastructure design and improper policy put in place to governor these application, this has allow for unauthorized access and misuse of user private information.

I) Social Media applications tend to lack proper security infrastructure, which makes them easy target for hackers. a) Social media sites like Facebook, twitter and MySpace are built on infrastructure with improper security features, which allows developers to access majority of the user information.(Spencer 2012) b) With the easy access of user personal informational identity thief is increased. (kent 2010) c) Social Media Site fuels stalking by giving easy access to information such as locations etc. (Alexandra 2010) II) Many Social media applications participate in unfair and deceptive practices by selling persons information for their own gain. a) Social media Websites have tracked record of selling individual data that they have gathered to the highest bidder. (Johnson 2010) b) Social Network claim that once you are on their sites they own all your content even if you delete your profile. (Facebook policy 2012) c) Government, law enforcements and many organizations can use a persons private information as they see fit since there is no law against the abuse of private online information ( Swire 2011)

Dacorie Smith Counter Claim III) Openness of social media application provides easy access to personal information that can be used inappropriately. a) Social media supports backchannel communication, allowing for wide- scale interaction that can be collectively resourceful in making natural disasters occur. ( Sutton 2007 ) b) Social media waste hours of valuable time by not allowing people to do repetitive task such as researching due to its addictive nature. (Qualman 2010 ) c) Social media provides direct connection to anybody no matter the time of day which adds to the daily distractions.
