PART I: CREATING YOUR SECTIONS 1.1 Introduction This tutorial covers the applications of the Minex5 surface rehabilitation. This module is used primarily for reclamation and spoil reshaping work. At the completion of this tutorial you should be able to use Minex5 to calculate the required cut and fill to balance your desired surface. 1.2 Requirements Prior to proceeding with this tutorial, you should have in your project directory Data to be rehabilitated and triangulated OR A Geometry file (.GM3)
The user should be familiar with Minex5 core functions The tutorial will refer to the actual tutorial data but its not essential to use this. 1.3 Objectives The objective of this tutorial is to:
Create a cross section Edit the cross section to create a slope Cut and Fill the slope Create an optimised cut/fill surface
1.4 Set-up Lets begin our tutorial by displaying the grid BA_3.grd. It should look like this:
1.5 Digitising your Section String Click on the EarthWorks tab and open Surface Rehabilitation.
1.6 What is the section string? The diagrams below help to distinguish between the section string and sections.
Section String
Sections
1.7 Creating Your Sections Now change the parameters of your sections. Interpolation Distance: 50 Section Offset Left: 200 Surface Tolerance Top: 35 Sections: Map: REHAB
The other parameters remain the same.
Set your surface grid as BA_3 and click create sections One of your sections will now be disaplayed as below.
Congratulations. You have created a cross section. Youre almost there. All that remains is to cut/fill your cross-section.
PART II CREATING YOUR TEMPLATE STRING 2.1 Using the Colo method In Surface Rehabilitation click on Digitize under Template String.
Your first point for the template string must be snapped to line. Set your string function to snapped to line and snap your first point.
Your next point will be calculated using cogo. In the string menu, select cogo.
And your forth and final should be set at a distance of 15m and a bearing of 80.
Make Cross Hair Type: Slanting Cross Hairs. And type in -10.00 in Cross Hair Axis 1. Leave everything else.
This option is found under the Template tab in the Surface Rehabilitation menu.
When you reach the last section, the software will inform you.
Now click the Compute/Fill key and you are almost finished. All the remains is to triangulate your section.
Click idents and add all your sections to the data. They should begin with SRS.
Plot your geometry data. Your sections should now be displayed as below.
Go back to Plot Geometry Data and excluded all other data but the sections.
Tick the box for Clip on boundary and Pick one your boundary.
2.7 Summary
In this tutorial you learnt how to: Create a cross section Edit the cross section to create a slope Cut and Fill the slope Create an optimised cut/fill surface
