Argh You Ready? Plans underway for 2nd Annual BucCornEar Festival and ParadeFund Raiser and Fire Prevention Carnival
Approximately 400 visitors attended our first annual BucCornEar Festival last October. Visitors and locals enjoyed games, good food and a variety of entertainment and fire safety programs. Crowned the KING of POPCORN was Ron Hargraves from the Little Red Barn. He was presented with a key to the city of Helmsburg and will be featured as our Grand Marshall in this years parade! We initiated over 50 new pirates over the two days, awarded 6 plaques to antique car owners, and gave out over 100 gifts and prizes! The Pirates of the Resurrection won the tug of war contest against the Peaceful Valley Pirates in true pirate fashion after convincing recruits to mutiny and join their team! This years event planning is already underway and we are excited to announce some new events that have been added. On Friday, we will host a Sea Shanty Contest. So gather your team, get your outfits and song ready as teams from various fire departments will compete for the BEST PIRATE CREW award! Saturday, we have added a motorcycle ride as well as a bicycle scavenger tour . This spring , you will see construction behind the station of a new training/game area. The
Gauntlet will consist of an obstacle course specially designed to test the endurance of the most hearty of challengers. Keep posted on all updateslike us on FACEBOOK at www.facebook.com/buccornear or check the web page http://buccornear.webs.com PREPARE your crew and join us!

Procrastination
Have you ever just looked at someone and knew the wheel was turning, but the hamster was dead? We are by nature creatures of habit easily lulled into complacency. As emergency responders, we must train weekly to keep complacency at bay. It requires qualities such as loyalty, patriotism, courage, selfdenial, vision, understanding, and sacrifice. As we begin this year at Jackson Township Fire Department, we are asking for your support in making this the best year ever. Federal and State requirements are increasing in the areas of fire training and education. These government regulations also effect equipment and safety standards and protocols which are required to be followed. We cannot allow the rising

How faithful are we to do the work that God has entrusted to us? He challenged us to stand firm and to seize opportunities provided by the open door. No matter what you do, dont ignore your open door of opportunity. Dont let procrastination or indifference steal your call to action! Be Alert Fire Season is approaching. We are still under our normal rainfall requirement for the year. Use extreme caution when burning. Note wind direction and speed.. Never leave a fire unattended!!

Solar Panels Good for the Environment but can pose hazard to firefighters
Do you have a rooftop or groundmounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system? A small PV system may provide energy to a single consumer, or to an isolated device like a lamp or a weather instrument. Large gridconnected PV systems can provide the energy needed by many customers. The electricity generated can be stored, used directly, or fed into a large electricity grid powered by central generation plants, or combined with one or many domestic electricity generators to feed into a small grid. Most commonly found here in Brown County is the single user system used to power and heat a residence. Because PV systems convert sunlight into electricity and that electricity is stored in the unit, there is always an electric charge contained in the system that is active from the unit to the electric meter. If a situation occurs and a fire should break out, homeowner should alert responders of the existing solar panels in the home AND homeowners and firefighters should never pull the electric meter as a means to shut off power to a building! This can cause serious damage to the unit as well as pose a serious life threat to the individual. Contact the department and we can set up a site inspection of your home so we can be better prepared in case of an emergency. Under normal operating conditions, photovoltaic (PV) systems are safe to operate. The PV industry has a good safety record, and only one recorded solar PV electrical injury to a firefighter has been reported worldwide.
