5.0 METHOD OF TEST: The tank/compartment or inaccessible spaces adjacent to the sea shall be tested at an air pressure of 2.2 psi. While the tank or spaces is at this holding pressure, the soap solution shall be applied on the seam welds and check for any leakage. 6.0 TEST PROCEDURE: After final welding and clearing the tank or compartment, an air test shall be conducted to ensure water tightness and the integrity of welding according to the procedure as follows: 6.1 The Ship fitter, Pipe fitter or Welder receives instruction from the section supervisor to conduct air testing on the repaired tank/space. 6.2 The Production workers shall prepare the test equipment and materials, such as: the blank plate, pressure gauge or manometer, testing piece, supply air, soapsuds. 5.3 Blank off all possible air passage such as air vents, sounding pipes, filling or overflow pipes, including manhole cover. 6.4 The Production Supervisor shall fill-up the Request for Inspection and Acceptance Form QC-201B and advise the Quality Control to attend and witness the test at least 1 hour before the test. 6.5 Ensure that the tank/compartment is clear from people prior to closing the manhole. Ensure that the test area is clear and safe. 6.6 Set the testing piece to the desired filling point of air either on the manhole or air vents. 6.7 Fill and press up the tank/spaces with compressed air until it reaches 2.2 psi on the pressure gauge or an equivalent water level in the manometer and hold at this pressure for at least 1 hour. 6.8 Observe the pressure gauge or water level in the manometer if it remains in the desired test pressure.
