Summary
as a project developer and EPC supplier is, at present, constructing the first CSP in the world hybridized with Biomass: TS Borges. The plant is located at the north-east region of Spain, close to Barcelona, and is to be electrically connected to the grid by the end of 2012. The project, due to its uniqueness, has already been presented at the following forums: NEXT COMING UP PRESENTATION: CSP Today Las Vegas 2012

Project Presentation. Borges Concentrated Solar Power plant

1. The project Borges Thermo solar corresponds to the construction of a CSP plant of 22,5 MW electrical output power, provided with parabolic trough collectors and hybridized with biomass. The worlds first thermo solar plant on a commercial scale with this uniqueness.
2. The project will be constructed in Les Borges Blanques, Lleida (North East of Spain), with a total area of 70 hectares and estimating an annual net production of 98.000 MWeh/year, from:

(i) The received solar irradiation in the solar field based on 336 collectors with a
total area of 181.000 sqm from the installed mirrors. biomass combustion units.

(ii) the useful thermal energy transferred to the HTF and produced in 2 x 22 MWt (iii) with an approximate 37% electrical efficiency from the turbine (iv) The plant is to produce electricity round-the-clock

Principal Design Advantages

Why do we hybridize?
1. Production: With a 22,5 MW hybridized plant, a production of 98.000 MWh/year is expected, very close to the production of a 50 MW plant in solar mode (around 110.000 MWh/year). 2. Dispatchable Generation: Enables the production of energy with low or with absence solar irradiation, achieving an operation of 6.500 hours/year 3. To Maximize the Plant Efficiency: With the incorporation of hybridization, a continuous operation of the steam turbine is permitted, avoiding daily start-ups and shut-downs, and therefore, a better efficient use of the power block as well as the electrical infrastructure of the plant. 4. Less investment for similar electrical production: The use of biomass optimizes CAPEX requirements. 5. Chances for hybridization depending on the environment 6. To avoid to oversize the solar field even though the plant runs 24 h/day

New Trends on Hybridized CSP

The CHALLENGE IS CLEAR: CSP has many strengths such as the possibility of being hybridized, on the other hand, overall efficiency needs to be increased in order to increase its competitiveness in the renewable energy market

ABANTIA, together with SIEMENS and INTEC are developing a new concept of a 1012 MW CSP plant hybridized with biomass Highlights

Thermal block optimization

Increase flexibility Increase the project economical feasibility
