State/Miscellany Winnability comes in the way of cleansing system in Cong, BJP

ticket from Bhadravati at the cost of sitting Congress MLA B K Sangameshwar, Hasanabba said, Ibrahim is of the view that he is a State leader. So, let him contest the Lok Sabha election from Shimoga in 2014, as we do not have an able candidate there. Why should Sangameshwar be denied the ticket now? If Ibrahim is an important leader, then he can also contest against Zameer Ahmed of JD(S) in Chamarajpet. It is also to be seen whether the Congress would entertain those who indulged in crossvoting during the last MLC elections. B C Patil and Malikayya Guttedar had openly challenged the Congress and had shown interest in joining the NCP. Apprehending a backlash from its leaders, the Congress is dilly-dallying on giving ticket to BJPs Anand Asnotikar, Raju Gouda and Belur Gopalakrishna, among others. The BJP has a tougher task than the Congress in case it is serious about cleansing the party. The saffron party will have to deny tickets to a good number of its MLAs, including Katta Subramanya Naidu, the former minister who went to jail following the Lokayukta cases, former minister S N Krishnaiah Setty, who was jailed in a Lokayukta case and also chargesheeted by the CBI. The BJP will have to begin its cleansing act from deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa himself. The Lokayukta police filed an FIR against him in a disproportionate assets case and conducted raids on his offices and residence on December 24 last year. Ironically, he is on the electioncommitteetoselectthe candidates. The Lokayukta police have filed disproportionate assets cases against BJP MLAs S R Vishwanath, M S Somalingappa, M Srinivas and Abhay Patil, among others. While the two major parties are still looking at the permutations and combinations, the JD(S) and KJP have opened their doors for migrants.

Congress selection meet turns stormy

NEW DELHI, DHNS: Heated exchanges are said to have ensued between KPCC president G Parameshwara and Congress legislature party leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday over the selection of party candidates for the Assembly elections in Karnataka. The two leaders termed the reports as baseless and said there were no differences between them. AICC in charge for Karnataka Madhusudan Mistry also dismissed the reports. The reports have no basis whatsoever. It was fed intentionally in order to create a vicious atmosphere, he said. Informed party sources, however, said the two leaders had heated arguments during the meeting of the AICC screening committee. While Siddaramaiah was keen that tickets be given to those belonging to his Kuruba community and other backward classes, Parameshwara was interested in giving more tickets to the dalits and minorities. At one stage, Parameshwara supposedly suggested that they should give more weight to views of those leaders who have influence in different regions. He said prominence in the selection of candidates from Old Mysore region should be given to S M Krishna and Siddara-

This was mainly because the seniors gave ticket to their followers, hoping that in the legislature party, they would have sufficient MLAs to support them. Such blunder should not happen now. Siddaramaiah opposed this suggestion saying if that was the case, there was no point in he being a member of the screening committee. At this point, Union minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh, a member of the committee, intervened and calmed the two leaders. Appearing before the media, the two leaders said they were working in the interest of Karnataka and the Congress party. Said Parameshwara: Some sections of the media had been carrying news reports that there were differences of opinion between the two of us. We have good co-ordination between us. These reports must have emanated from those inimical to the interests of Congress and it is regrettable.Siddaramaiah echoed Parameshwaras views and stressed that there was no basis for these reports. Former minister D K Shivakumar was angry over Parameshwaraas, accordingtohim, Vokkaligas have been sidelined in the selection of candidates.

Religious leaders must maintain distance

BANGALORE, DHNS: Shivamurthy Muragharajendra swamy of Bruhanmutt, Chitradurga said that religious institutions should not get converted into vote banks and religious leaders should maintain a safe distance from politicians. Institutions which fail to maintain such discipline would face problems, he added. He was participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Press Club, Bangalore and Reporters Guild, here on Thursday. The interaction was organised in the wake of the Assembly elections. He said in case seers have keen interest in politics, they should directly face elections. Just because one accepts government grants, they should not try to pay back the debt. No mutt should stand by any individual simply because financial assistance is taken from the government, he said. The swamy said no mutt is dependent on the government for its existence.

Deepak Berde, a neighbour, said that he along with few others removed grills of the second floor window to rescue the fivemember Shinde family. The rush of onlookers from neighbouring areas affected rescue operations with police having a tough time controlling the crowds. Fire fighting personnel said both the deceased did not have any burn injuries nor fire marks were visible in the rubble as the cylinder did not catch fire. Incidentally, the Kulkarnis had decided to vacate the house during the weekend to go to another house on rent, but two members were killed in the cylinder blast. rut with his sins of disobedience to God. He had become a rebel who had to lay down his arms if he ever desired to reconcile himself with God. This process of surrender or repentance, as Lewis refers to, could not be made by an imperfect man. Thus, God takes human form to walk man through the process of reconciliation. Lewis puts it, If God became man, our human nature, which can suffer and die, would be amalgamated with Gods nature in one person and then that person could help us. He could surrender His will and suffer and die, because He was man and He could do it perfectly because He was God. And that is the sense in which He pays our debt, and suffers for us what He himself need not suffer at all. Jesuss crucifixion, one of the most paramount events of all history and the root of the Christian faith, is a grim reminder to man of the ugliness of sin and the price that has to be paid for its nullification. Jesus, who lived as a leader, was crucified as a crusader, died with heroism and left His mark of love indelibly as a refulgent beacon for His followers. Through His death on the cross, Jesus indeed proved His words, There is no greater love than this that one gives ones life for ones friends.
