Overview:
3M is a highly diversified global company with policies to ensure innovative and creative
environment is facing to one critical question about the success of “computer privacy screen”.
3M funds R&D at rate if 6-7% of sales, it is twice average rate in US. However, previously,
they received 2 failures in market. Therefore, the manager Andy Wong is standing in front of
possible to manage to maintain not only company’s benefit but also the objective of
innovation.

Analysis:
1. Privacy Screen Project and Opportunity:
This project is the proposal of Sales and Marketing Manager Noirjean, who has great
marketing background and market experiences:

2. Possible alternative:
Manager Andy Wong should approve the Privacy Computer Screen and get fund from the
Division Vice President Guehler. Besides good things were mentioned in Diagram 3, as a
manager of 3M, if Andy Wong approves the proposal, it will keep the consistency with
company objectives of innovation and creativity.

3. Effectiveness of Paul Guehler and Andy Wong:

Create condition for front line manager seeks for good opportunities

Support the objectives of innovative and creative environment

Guehler Encourage manager competence by help

Adopt not only support, invest but also discipline, take resource away
