Summer camp topics - 2013: The strong feature of the camp is take-home working models projects and supporting experiments which will talk about different energy concepts like sound, electricity, light, motion etc ultimately assists his understanding of science and increases his aptitude for Science. Here are some projects that the participants will make during the camp. Day1: Lens Camera - This is the simplest version of the modern camera. Kids will construct their own lens cameras and understand why the image is inverted on the screen! Concepts: Light energy, Nuclear energy in celestial bodies, Bending of Light and Optics Day 2: Magic Bank- Kids can enjoy the magical effect of light. They also understand the concepts of optical illusion. Bird in the Cage (Thaumatrope) - Persistence of Vision and limitations of eyes are understood by this particular experiment Concepts: Light, Reflection, How our eyes see a video Day 3: LED torch- Magic pen which uses light as an ink to write and help kids understand the concepts of electricity kids build a LED Torch. Concepts: Sources of light, phosphorescence, luminance, Chemiluminance, Electricity, New techniques to produce electricity. Day 4: Newton's boat- Wonder how and why the big ships move on water, what gives hover craft a thrust and why an airplane takes off. Build a boat which uses thrust of fan to move on water. Concepts: Conversion of Electricity into Mechanical energy, Use of magnetism, Motors, Newtons laws Day 5: Music instruments- Participants learn that sound is a form of energy too. Generate sound using things that we see around us! And learn about the properties of sound. Concepts: What, why of sound, what is noise, Why is there a huge noise when balloon is burst!

Day 6: Balancing bird -A beautiful balancing bird is built which dances on the tip of the finger. While understanding the why and how a man can walk on a rope. Dancing Joker - Helps kids to understand the complicated concept of centre of gravity in a fun filled way. Concepts: How birds balance while flying, what makes the design of the automobiles, what makes us stand straight? Day 7: Flying High - What is pressure of Air? How does an airplane fly? Participants learn by experimenting on different types of Kites. Concepts: Bernoullis principle, what is wind and how to harness it? Wind mills and energy, balancing of the kites.

Day 8: Pichkari Preparing pump using syringes which helps to understand how the movement of fluid take place using mechanical action. Concepts: What is a pump? What are the different concepts involved in a pump? Whats Hydro dynamics? Fluids, air, suction, vacuum.

Day 9: Trabuchet- What is angle in which you need to throw the cricket ball to reach maximum distance??Transfer of energy and projectile motion is learnt by building a trebuchet! Concepts: Gravitation, Projectile motion, simple machine etc

Day 10: Ae mes Room: Can we design a room which can create optical illusion? How do our eyes work? What is the relation between eye and parallax? Size and shape of the objects for eyes etc Concepts: Illusions, Physics of eyes, parallax.

Duration of the summer camp The summer camp is for the duration of 10 days and each workshop is normally held for around 2 hrs each day. All the workshops will have a project that the kids will carry home. Teacher for the summer camp ScienceUtsav s trained teachers will be conducting the summer camp. Required materials: The activity kits and the materials required for the experiments are carried to the event by our team. The kids will be provided all the required things to do the experiment. They need not carry anything from home. Other events by ScienceUtsav ScienceUtsav have been conducting science shows, science competitions, summer camps and year long weekend programs in Science for 6 to 14 year olds at various places in India since more than 3 years. About ScienceUtsav: ScienceUtsav is a creative parallel educational program for children of age group 07 to 14 years. In this innovative program children gain knowledge of concepts of science through fun filled curriculum based experiments, projects, hands on activities, expeditions and much more. These projects help kids use their imagination and the hands on activities and expeditions impart a sense of achievement to the kids. At SU we encourage children to as k questions about the How and Why of Science and strive very hard to make the answering process explaining as well as thought provoking. ScienceUtsavs mission is to kindle reasoning and logical thinking amongst kids. We, the team of ScienceUtsav, are people sharing the motto of Practicality is everything. We believe that the current education system, with its certain loopholes has, by far, only been successful in producing students with strong memorizing skills and with a decent theoretical knowledge. Our aim, at SU is to fill these loopholes with the right amount of Conceptual understanding in a fun filled manner
