Liquid
Liquid Soil is a construction material which is flowable during installation
and which may be produced from nearly any kind of excavated material

Applications
Liquid Soil may be used in most backfill situations, such as filling utility or service trenches, backfilling excavations
on construction sites, filling voids, tunnels and galleries and use on site requiring large quantities of material.

Liquid Soil also offers the possibility of hanging its properties to suit the individual application requirements.

Properties
Flowable Pumpable Self-compacting May be laid under water No settlement No crowning Use of most type of soil and recycled aggregate possible Can be topped quickly Can be excavated again easily Gas permeable Mitigates vibration Non-toxic, non-hazardous Easy to produce and handle

Advantages

Quicker completion with lower labour requirements Reduction of volumes handled Lower space requirements Improved operator safety No compaction in wet trenches Quality management gives defined properties Allow gas leaks to be detected Good bedding properties, leading to long-lasting service networks Homogeneous ground reinstatement avoids discontinuities Removable with a hand spade No Compaction damage may used with all types of pipe materials

LIQUID SOIL FOR

TELECOMMUNICATION TRENCHES
Liquid Soil is a material which can be produced from nearly all type of excavated material and used in site, such as for example in the case of a trench in urban site for the installation of Telecommunication wires or services. In this case Liquid Soil become a rapid and easy way to use a discharge product - reducing drastically the stand-by time and installing of the undertaken services- in a sustainable way! The following picture sequence shows how an existing bicycle path/sidewalk made with slip bricks, can be opened and rebuilt in an easy wayas nothing happened! The mixed soil obtained with Liquid Soil becomes hard in a few hours avoiding all dangerous and bad effects of the natural subsidence of the traditional refilling methods. The use of small equipment (installed on mini-excavator or mini-dumper) is more suitable for small works where the agility is priority and spaces are small. In case of big quantity of treated soil with high daily production, the use of bigger equipment with concrete mixer truck is required. 1. Slip bricks are removed and excavation executed

2. Plastic hoses and cables are installed

3. Excavated soil is mixed with liquid soil and poured in the opened trench

4. Liquid soil material is hardening

5. The original slip bricks design is restored.

6. The bicycle path/sidewalk is again in service

Simple, quick, sustainable!

Sewer Construction
Installation under congested conditions of a large diameter sewer in an open-cut trench using sheet piling

The Challenge
In Bamberg a 2000 mm main sewer had to be installed in the Jckstrae whilst maintining single lane traffic. Because of the 6-7 m depth, sheet piling trench support was used which in turn called for an expensive concrete trench bed. In order to minimise the trench width, partial backfill with RSS Liquid Soil was specified since it would otherwise not have been possible to finish construction within the time allowed.

Much reduced construction time using RSS Liquid Soil

The Solution
LOGIC developed a technical solution for Karl Krumpholz Rohrbau GmbH, who used the properties of RSS Liquid Soil in such a way that the specified load could be achieved without an expensive reinforced concrete trench bed. This solution was put into place as an amendment by Karl Krumpholz Rohrbau GmbH. The project was completed to the client's satisfaction within time and on budget.

Sewer Construction
Float-laying a sewer in difficult ground conditions

The Challenge
Installation of a wastewater pipe in very difficult, unstable ground sensitive to vibration with up to 7 m peat soil at the entrance to the port area of Lbeck. The area is intensively trafficked by heavy lorries. Avoidance of subsidence and the production of made ground with similar bearing properties to eventual nearby road construction particularly in the pipe trench area.

Float-laying a sewer using RSS Liquid Soil

The Solution
RSS Liquid Soil and the use of RSS pipe-laying acessories with floating pipe supports with no fixed connection to the soil bed. This gives consistent soil conditions which isolate the installed pipes from the heavy trafic loading and avoids long-term differential settlement.

Sewer Construction

Laying pipes in a narrow trench using RSS Liquid Soil

The Solution
The use of RSS Combi-Manholes, specially designed to accomodate local hydraulic conditions, allowed all the associated pipework to be laid and backfilled in a trench only 1.25 m wide including shuttering. Since the backfill was carried out using RSS Liquid Soil, fast and efficient construction under optimum bedding conditions became possible and the planned removal of excavated soil was avoided. This resulted in large cost savings and minimal environmental impact.
