Dear Team We have been tasked by the IOC to bid for the contract to win the upcoming Olympic

build for Sochi 2014 or Rio 2016. Each board can be made up of between 3 and 5 members only. I have stolen the minutes of their last meeting from the board room to give us a better idea of what they are looking for they are attached. We dont have much time. In addition to todays meeting we only have 3 other meetings of 1 hour to be ready to present on Wednesday March 13th at 12.15. Our scheduled meetings are at 12.10 on the following dates: 30/1/13, 27/2/13, 6/3/13. (This is because we have to work on the top secret CWK project from 7-15th February and then there is that company vacation too!) I am not involved in this project so could you forward me the minutes at the end of each meeting; just so I can see what you have done and what you will do next. Regards. N.C.Ashton Bsc (Hons) BOC Chairperson IOC Committee member and general of A.W.esomeness

Minutes of meeting December 14th 2.00pm
Rio & Sochi We are looking for each of the bids to cover the following in order to make an informed judgement as to who will win the contract:

A model/detailed diagram/floor plan of at least one of the buildings for the village. The team but show themselves to be team players as we cant risk the village being held up by domestic disputes! They will be aware that we have not yet identified the rock types which are present under the area where the village will be built. They will describe the 3 types of rock we may encounter when digging and explain how they form. They will link this to hardness and also suggest how it will impact on the excavation of the land for use as a village. They will discuss the impact of quarrying in the local area and relate this to social, environmental and economic factors. The team will discuss how cement is to be made using local calcium carbonate rocks and how it will be used in the manufacture of concrete. The best bidders will discuss the relative differences between normal and reinforced concrete. An Olympic monument will have been designed. They will explain how it is made and what it represents. They will have linked this to the core principles of the Olympic and Paralympic games. The team will have compared an contrasted at least 4 metals including one alloy and, using data to support their arguments, explain which metal(s) they will use in the village and why. We need the team to have considered whether to use the large quantities of recyclable copper in the local areas. They must present a strong argument for or against and have explained how we might extract the pure copper.

The team should discuss at length whether to use Aluminium or Steel in construction by reviewing advantages and disadvantages. They should look also at how the metals will last over time.

To extend:

We need the team to suggest whether we choose to buy Audi A3 cars with a steel frame or an aluminium frame. We need these cars to travel the long distances from the airport to the village for athletes and delegates. The team will have considered what the functionality of the building will be after the Olympics has taken place. What will it be turned into and how difficult will this be? The team may also have researched transport links in Rio/Sochi and discussed how we could make the infra-structure more earthquakeproof.
