Introduction
Henuid hydrodynamic couplings have been developed and designed by employing the most up-to-date engineering concepts resulting in a product of the highest technical standard and excellent operating performance. Carefully dimensioned models were elaborated for projects with power requirements from 02 to 2500 HP.
Functioning
The principal components are two shelllike, axially winged rotors, one being the pump rotor and the other one the turbine rotor, in addition to a plain carcass which doubles as an oil reservoir containing the internal rotor.

Functioning
The rotors are tted one facing the other with a pre-determined clearance, without any mechanical contact between them. The Henuid hydrodynamic coupling works like a centrifugal pump and a hydraulic turbine. By means of an entry force (conventional electric motor or electric ring motor), the kinetic energy is transmitted by the oilll inside the coupling. The oil is accelerated by the pump rotor and through centrifugal force the movement is transmitted to the turbine rotor; the torque thus generated is transmitted to the secondary hub and, consequently, to the machine driven. Any one of the rotors can assume the task of pump or turbine, depending on the direction of assembly. Wear is practically inexistent as there is no mechanical contact, and the efciency of the system is only dependent on the difference between the entry and exit rotation of the coupling (slippage).

Normal operation
The driving machine provides the energy to accelerate the working uid so as to generate a round-about current. Due to the transmission of the kinetic energy by the uid, the internal rotor is put in motion.
During normal operation only the torque required by the machine driven is transmitted by the coupling which is designed to absorb possible overloads without passing these on to the driving machine.

The selection graph should be used for a preliminary choice of the Henuid hydrodynamic coupling. For installation please contact our Application Engineering department, in order to conrm selection of the ideal size and constructive form for the drive. In combination with a simple and inexpensive electric induction motor Henuid hydrodynamic couplings offer a vast eld of applications, permitting start-ups without acceleration resistance and reaching operating rotation quickly and at a low power consumption, as opposed to systems without start-up protection. At conclusion of the acceleration process and keeping in mind the couplings low slippage factor, only the torque effectively necessary for the functioning of the machine driven will have been required from the electric motor.

frequency and magnitude of the shock waves depends on the ta/tu ratio, where ta is the torque variation transferred by the drive during the acceleration period, and tu is the oscillation time of low belt speeds (see gure below). Considering that tu cannot be changed because it depends on the belt type and length, the frequency and intensity of the shock waves is directly related to ta, i.e. evolution time of acceleration torque of the system. Therefore, the longer the time of start-up torque increase, the lower the effect of the shock waves on the system.

Observation
The items marked with (*) are those minimally necessary for the selection and/or conrmation of the selection of a Henuid hydrodynamic coupling made previously by Henfel, or by the client, during the phase of price consultation. It is up to the designer / manufacturer of the driven equipment to ll in this questionnaire and return it to Henfel, including the complete dimensions of the drive shaft and driven shaft tips, for nal conrmation of the selection of Henuid hydrodynamic couplings and start of the manufacturing process.

Term of Responsibility
The preliminary selection of models and sizes of Henuid hydrodynamic couplings, made by the client or by Henfels Applications and Sales department based on incomplete technical information is always subject to conrmation after receipt of this lled in Questionnaire of Technical Information. Henfel does not assume any responsibility for problems arising out of improper application of its Hydrodynamic Couplings based on insufcient technical data not permitting conrmation of the selection of said couplings, even though this selection may have been preliminarily done by its Applications and Sales Department, problems which may entail production loss, physical and material damage, loss of prot, contractual nes, etc. Our Applications and Sales Department is permanently at the clients disposal for clarifying any doubts relating to the correct selection, application and use of the Henuid Hydrodynamic Couplings. Hydrodynamic Couplings
The Hydrodynamic Couplings Henuid were projected and designed within the newest concepts of engineering, which propitiated the conceiving of a high technical standard and excellent work performance. Dimensioned after meticulous researches, many models were designed to attend projects with all ranges of need, from 02 hp to 3000 hp. Combined with an induction electric motor, Henuid offers a huge eld of utilization. Allowing starts with no resistance to its acceleration, rapidly achieving the desired work rotation, with little power consumption if compared to systems with no protected starts.
Tooling
With the philosophy of offering the best to our clients, Henfel has invested constantly in its Tooling Department. These investments contemplate the modernization of the machinery as well as the training and capacitating of the personnel involved in planning, quality check and operations.
Foundry
Capable of producing 150 tons a month, the Henfel Foundry Department relies on a highly qualied crew, who uses up to date production processes and has been able to achieve excellent results in the manufacturing and developing of parts, which meet with the most demanding and controlled specications. Aiming to supply the machinery and equipments sector with high quality parts, the foundry department is ready to serve a wide range of needs and specications concerning the alloys used, enabling parts in: grey cast iron, nodular iron and aluminum.
